About Me

I have been playing guitar since I was 10 and I've been writing music since shortly after that. I've been in bands since I was 13. I currently play with The Front Porch Band here in L.A., one of the loudest acoustic bands around! I've played Country gigs, Rock gigs, Jazz gigs....weddings, bar-mitzvahs and tours. Produced a few CDs, lots of demos, during the 80's had some artists cut some songs overseas, etc. I played on hundreds of sessions, from film dates to record dates, commercials and a whole lot of "demos." For the last decade I have been blessed to use all my skills to write music for TV and film, mostly working with Bob Mair and others at Black Toast Music, one of the best music libraries around. Check it out at Black Toast Music

I won a BMI Film & TV Award in 2007 and 2008 for co-writing the theme for the CBS show Shark with my friend Sean Callery, a great, great composer. I've had songs in tons of TV shows like My Name Is Earl, Smallville, Prison Break, La Femme Nikita, Roswell, CSI (all of them), Without A Trace, Las Vegas, Six Feet Under, The Wire, The Shield, Entourage, Ed, Mad About You, One Tree Hill, Supernatural, Party of Five, Dawson's Creek, Dark Angel, Nip/Tuck, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, etc., etc., etc. It's getting to be a long list! I co-wrote the opening and closing theme songs for Stuart Little 3 (direct to DVD!), the Disney 411 theme, various other themes, and have had songs in several movies, large and small. At least that's what the Google search says.

After all these years I still get to go outside to my studio and make music everyday so I must say I feel like a blessed individual. I do miss gigging though - but not the 4 hour smokey club gigs to pay the rent!

By the way, to see who the players and vocalists are on the songs I posted, check out my blog.

Band Members: It's me and sometimes a host of the best players and singers around!
Influences:I love it all! From Aerosmith to Zappa, Beatles to XTC, with pit stops at Stravinsky and Ives, Bach and Borodin, Bill Monroe, Albert Lee, Joe Pass, Joe Strummer, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray, Jorma Kaukonen, John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny, Robben Ford (the sweetest tone and guy), Chet Atkins, etc., etc.... Coltrane, Shorter, Archis Shepp, Sun Ra, Miles, Meldau, Oscar Peterson, Cecil Taylor..... Esa-Pekka... Rick Rubin, John Levanthal, George Martin.... Holland Dozier & Holland, Carole King, Leonard Bernstein, Leonard Cohen!, Shawn Colvin, Lyle Lovitt, JONI MITCHELL! And who can forget Jerry Garcia and the Dead - the reason I got into all this, along with a thousand other great writers, players and producers. Oh yeah, especially all the local guys and gals in the trenches of 30+ years of gigging, recording, writing. They are all on this list, too numerous to mention.....
Sounds Like: My current writing gig is to sound like everyone! I think I creep through it though. Guitar wise? I sound like me, an amalgam of all the great players I love but whose shoes I will never fill. Melody over speed, soul over ego.
Record Label: What's a record label?

Finally Some New (Old) Songs!

So lately we've been getting calls to "replace" songs that were used in TV shows many years ago. My friend Richard Levinson and I get together and have a good time going back in time recreating songs ...
