The West Coast Songwriters (WCS) was founded in 1979
when a few talented songwriters decided that by joining forces they would be able to write stronger songs and create more opportunities to market them. That evening the original South Bay Songwriters group was formed. The organization has grown tremendously. It became the Northern California Songwriters Association, 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization and is now the West Coast Songwriters, a regional force with a 1200+ membership and a full schedule of activities and opportunities.
WCS events take place throughout the west coast, as far south as Hollywood and as far north as Portland. Four categories of membership are available: individual, student, band and contributing (typically published songwriters or industry supporters). With the support of the music industry's leading songwriters, publishers, producers and record companies as well as local and volunteer backing, WCS presents 15 to 20 monthly events from Hollywood to Portland, providing substantial support to its membership in the way of contacts, education and opportunities. Each year, WCS holds an International Song Contest. The Annual Songwriters Conference is held the second weekend every September.
