Thank you so much for the experience of a lifetime! I cannot express how grateful I am and I feel so lucky and honoured to have been part of such a wonderful event... I know that I speak on behalf of everyone that attended when I say thank you, thank you, thank you and a million times more - THANK YOU for organizing such an amazing event.
- Anna Tirotta (Attendee & 2008 Song Contest Winner)
What can I say....a fantastic weekend, -my mind is buzzing with posibilities and also with heaps of great steps i will be putting into actuion in the next few days to get myself more on-track with my renewed directing in composition.
- Robert Urquhart (Attendee)
I just wanted to say it was such a privilige and honour to be part of your amazing success over the weekend - I feeling a bit shell shocked this morning not having to come down for breakfast and having a whole bunch of energised and creative people around getting ready to be educated. You're in that tiny club of people that actually get to see their dreams come to fruition, so you should be so chuffed with your efforts... Take care, and thanks again - onwards and upwards for 2009.
- Diana Torossian (Faculty - Parasongs)
Alexandra and I can't put into words our gratitude to you. The 1st ASC was such a success and totally exceeded our expectations. Jason is so capativating and so giviing and ALL the faculty were so warm and wonderful. We are sad that it's over but we are still on a bit of a high... Again Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
-Alida Valmorbida (Parent of Attendee)
Adie and I just wanted to congratulate you on a wonderful conference. The first of many I am sure! The atmosphere was truly loving, supportive, nurturing and intimate-exactly what we creative spirits all need to thrive. I am sure everyone will be encouraged to continue on their creative paths, to follow their dreams and honor their gifts and talents as a result of this weekend. Congratulations again an extraordinary job.... We would be honored to participate again next year-If you'll have us!!!!!
- Barbara & Adrian Hannan (Faculty - The Song Store)
Thanks again for an amazing weekend. I thought the venue might have been a bit distracting, but with the rain outside and the great food and company etc. inside it wasn't a problem. Jason and the rest of the faculty and your crew were fantastic and running Thursday night to Monday made it a really neat getaway.
- Phil Cole (Attendee)
Thank you for the opportunity to attend the ASC for 2008. I was very impressed with the conference and will be singing its praises to all that I meet in the music industry.
- Alan Gilmour (Australian Songwriters Association)
I can't tell you how invaluable the conference has been for me......It is like a light has come on in a dark room....thank you so much for all your hard work and patience....and thanks to your team of lovely helpers.
- Russell Vitnell (Attendee)
I really want to say that the weekend made me feel like I belonged to the music industry family for the time I was there. I didn't feel judged or criticized or rejected at all, and I felt proud to be an Aussie... I don't know how you found all those wonderful people to get together for that time, but I knew from the first email, that I wanted to be at this conference, and it was the best. All the people I work with can see I am on a high at the moment.
- Joe Romeo (Attendee)
From beyond the bottom of my heart - thank you so much for this career saving & life changing experience!
- Rochelle Swift (Attendee)
This is the first opportunity I've had to sit down and genuinely thank you for the ASC event 2008!!! I learnt more than I ever imagined, through all the amazing faculty on board, especially Jason Blume. I personally want to thank you for giving me the opportunity for all of this, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and have walked away with a better understanding about the industry, not just songwriting. I also have met some amazingly, talented people, including attendees which I plan to stay in touch with. Please pass on my gratitude to Jason, Neil, and the rest of th faculty for their positive vibe the whole weekend! I look forward to the next one and I will definitely be spreading the word!!
- Donna Jordee (Attendee)
Congratulations on such a successful conference. Thank you for inviting me I had an awesome time and really enjoyed yourself, your family, the helpful staff, talented faculty folk et al And of course the diverse and talented people from all over the nation.
- Peter Scully (Songwriting Society of Australia)
Dear Lisa,
I wanted to personally thank you for the opportunity you presented to Howard. He hasn't stopeed grinning since ASC started on Friday the 6th! Have a fantastic break and please thank Jason for Howie and I as I know he has made a very positive impact on Howie and helped him to see the convoluted road of songwriting that much clearer, which in turn has made it so much easier. My fondest thanks to a woman of great empathy and skill. Thank you for taking on board something as immense as starting the annual ASC.
- Paula Shearman (Parent of Attendee)
Thank you Lisa so much. I appreciate everything you have done. I was blown away from the information I received. You truly looked after everything, I couldn't comment on one thing to improve...
- Daxton Monaghan (Attendee)
Well before I say anything first may I say - OH MY GOD!!!! I know you've had nothing but good feedback so far so let me just confirm that EVERYTHING was amazing! Best weekend ever. Next year will be even better and you can expect me there for sure! Well done. I'm so happy that you got exactly what you wanted and that your realisation actually did come true - it was WAY better than I even thought it would be!
- Nick Roberts (Attendee)
Here is some information about the event. The website is currently being updated with photos and video interviews from the 2008 ASC, and bookings for next year will be open soon. Join our mailing list to be kept up-to-date on everything ASC!
The Australian Songwriters Conference is a four day event, being held Friday 6th to Monday 9th June 2008, taking advantage of the Queen's Birthday long weekend. The conference will take place in the beautiful surrounds of Ettalong Beach Club and Mantra Resort on the NSW Central Coast.
Although week-long songwriting camps and conferences are regularly held overseas, particularly in the USA, there has never been a conference of this scope, specifically for songwriters, held in Australia.
The Australian Songwriters Conference will deal specifically and exclusively with the craft and business of songwriting.
The ASC is unique in that it is open to all songwriters, regardless of age, location, songwriting experience or genre. Songwriters do not need to be members of existing organisations, and the conference agenda is packed full of seminars, workshops and other activities relevant to both performing and non-performing songwriters.
Atendees will have the opportunity to pitch their best songs to top Australian and international music publishers who are actively seeking great material and songwriters to work with. Attendees will also be able to mix and chat with the industry Pros who will be happy to share their knowledge and advice during the conference.
The conference agenda includes seminars run by top U.S. Songwriter and teacher, Jason Blume (Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, and Jesse McCartney, Collin Raye, the Oak Ridge Boys, John Berry and more), on a variety of subjects such as ‘Using Successful Song Structures and Rhymes’, ‘Writing Melodies Listeners Can’t Forget – and Artists Want to Record’, ‘Producing Demos that Demonstrate Your Song’s Hit Potential’, ‘This Business of Songwriting (A Discussion of Publishing; Royalties; Pitching Songs, and More)’ and ‘Pitching/Placing Songs in International Markets’. Jason will also facilitate a group songwriting exercise as well as informal Q&A sessions.
Our Faculty Speakers and Mentors:
The ASC is committed to bringing in Australia’s top music industry professionals to run seminars relating to songwriters and the Australian music industry. Discussions will include writing for film and television, writing jingles for advertising, writing songs for the growing children's market and of course, writing pop, rock, country and more. The 'Faculty' includes top songwriters, publishers, music lawyers and other music industry pros.
