The Pondering Blonde

About Me

____________________________________________________________ __ ____________________________________________________________ __My Writing and Journalism career officially began in September 2005, when my first article was published in Seventeen Magazine. I've dreamt of a career in writing since the day I leant how and seeing my first piece in print gave me the driving ambition to make it my lifelong mission! Soon after, my second love, that of the EDM industry and Nightlife, found its way into my world of words when I began writing my column "The Pondering Blonde", a commentary on all things music, social and underground on the South African Party Scene, for Codotza (A Nightlife and Events Marketing Website). So began my venture into Nightlife Journalism! In 2006 I completed my studies, majoring in Journalism and Public Relations and began the journey in full force when I stumbled across BPM Magazine, a South African underground music industry publication. I politely bugged the editor until he gave me a shot and some page space; and bringing my column and industry ignorance with me, I jumped, somewhat blindly, into the Features, Interviews and Reviews of some of the countries most talented producers, DJ’s and dance acts. In early 2007 I added writing for MrSpencer, a Johannesburg nightlife and events website, with a following of 17 000 registered users, to my repertoire, again covering all things on the Nightlife and House Music scene. I’ve undertaken the challenge of balancing the fine line between partying and writing about partying, with that of my first fulltime day job as a copywriter at an Advertising Agency. -Another exciting, creative learning step on my ladder to world domination of ‘the written word’, and now suffer much sleep deprivation as a result. In my spare time- I do have a little; I do other freelance work in event marketing, writing flyer copy and DJ Biographies.I fell in love with the house music and club scene at the age of 16, when I found myself at my first rave; Ministry of Sound- Theatre On The Track in 2001. Dancing my way to and beyond that of an officially ‘legal’ age, -whilst maintaining my purity- yes I do insist!- I witnessed what is now referred to as “The Good Old Days” with groundmoving events by Gods Kitchen, and performances by Jules and Mauro Picotto, unbeknown it would become such a huge part of my life! I have been actively and intimately following the scene and its developments for the last 3 years and believe this is a sub culture and form of entertainment that is not readily accepted and acknowledged in South Africa- in part due to the lack of media coverage and respect it receives, which affects not only music development in South Africa but development for our country on a global scale. I hope to change this whilst still maintaining the scene’s valuable underground essence and energy. Through my writing in and on the scene, I’d love to forge an international career and take South African EDM with me all the way!*Watch this space!* =)__________________________________________________________ ____ ____________________________________________________________ __
