Chris has been involved in the development of the dance music industry in South Africa over the last 10 years. He's had a hand in just about every dance compilation released in the country, from Perfecto, Kiss FM and Bump to all of the House Afrika releases. Working as the editor and chief writer for Music Maker Magazine, Chris helped the magazine grow from 64 to 108 pages, as well as doubling the readership in 2 years. Chris worked at CSR Studios in Sandton for eight years, where he gained most of his industry experience. The studio has been responsible for recordings such as Substitute by Clout, worked on the Lion King 3 and Fantasia 2, as well as albums for the likes of Johnny Clegg, Brenda Fassie, Soweto String Quartet, Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, TKZee and Tima Reece. Chris s own studio, Layered, is responsible for mastering about 50% of all South African CD releases.
Chris has been producing his own music for the last 9 years, having had a top ten hit as Chromagene on SA s national radio station, 5FM, with Atomique as well as being nominated for South African Music Award for To the light. Chris DJs regularly at clubs in Johannesburg, his style ranging across progressive house, break beat and minimal techno. He has played alongside DJs like Nick Warren, Lee Burridge and Gary D, as well as South African DJs like Dizzy, Manuel and Speedy. Chris has also played in Germany in April 2004 and April 2005, both in Frankfurt and Saarbruecken. He was also involved in the Red Bull Music Academy in Cape Town in November 2003. Chris helped to plan the event and create a space that none of the participants would easily forget, as well as lecturing on mastering. Chris's remix of Arno Carstens The Magic of Home was recently released in Germany through Sony Music. Chris released a chill out album worldwide in November 2004 called Chris Palmer featuring Michael Allen through a Californian record company, Inner Dream Records (www.innerdreamrecords.com). One of the tracks, Cafe Rue, has been signed to Gresham Records and released on Cafe d' Afrique Volume 2. Chris's label, Layered Records, was recently accepted by Beatport (beatport.com) and will see 2 releases in February 2006. The Cafe d Afrique series has just been picked up for release in the US, Canada and Japan, 1st release is March 2006. Soon to be released on Layered Records is Canadian artist, ICLigt, with his new track "Celestial Whispers". Chris recently started a 2 hour weekly radio on Derek The Bandit's website, check it out!

Techno, The Fundamentals

Techno has nothing to do with how much or indeed, how little you play. Only how it makes you feel, how it makes you dance and how it makes everyone around you feel and dance. Techno was created by me...
