About Me

MyGen Profile Generator After a a lifettime spent interfering with his friends sound systems at various parties, Bruno Morphet started djing in 1996 at the Magnet in Cape Town at the infamous, yet short-lived Stickshift nights. After a stint there playing an eclectic mix of latin, jazz and house music, he moved into the mainstream clubbing circuit as the resident at Orange and later Moomba. Finding his way into the burgeoning Cape Town deep house scene, he began to specialize more in the deeper side of dance music, spinning guest slots at parties such as Foo Funk, Voyage, Essential Mix, MCQP, Synergy, many nights at the legendary More and as support to a variety of international guest djs. In 2000, Bruno embarked on a successful trip to New York City, playing gigs at clubs in Manhattan and Brooklyn. He founded the Return to the Deep parties in 2001, managing and promoting these specialist music events both in Cape Town and other parts of the country.Up until 2004, Bruno enjoyed a two year residency at Deluxe but parted ways with the club due to a creative difference and an interest in the minimal techno sounds that were emanating from Europe at the time. A chance booking alongside techno stalwart Ivan Turanjanin led to a collaboration at the newly built Fiction and Killer Robot was born. Bruno is now joint resident at Killer Robot spinning minimal and deep techno sounds every Friday. International guests at Killer Robot have included djs and artists from Kompakt, Ghostly International and Alphahouse. Recently Bruno has also supported djs such as Lee Burridge, Steve Bug, James Zabiela, James Lavelle and Butane on their tours of South Africa.“I like to keep things interesting and not too predictable. I think djs owe it to their audience and themselves to push the boundaries a bit when they play”
