About Me

Earthdance 2005 - Sunrise DJ set

Add to My Profile | More VideosEverybody's been telling me to get onto myspace so here I am. I am proudly South African... although I prefer to see myself as African!!! I love Africa - it is the birthplace of mankind! I've been Dj'ing for about ten years. I love music.. always have always will... All genres except soulless, homogenous radio-manufactured crap. One can always tell! I used to be a promoter: notably Alien Safari, PRISM NYE and SA Total Solar Eclipse 2002. In 2005 I released my first album - DMMT - Africa Bombastic on Freefall recs along with a friend Martin T (aka Hoover.) Today I own South Africa's leading independent Music magazine, BPM MAG (no relation to BPM Magazine USA, sorry) and share my time between running this business, journalism, dj'ing and writing music, mainly a dubby type electro jazzy kinda style . I used to dj psy-trance but I'm kinda over that now.

Influences: What can I say? Bob's (Marley) my hero. I don't know of any songwriter whose music has reached a more diverse audience. His music was/is universal and his lyrics showed an insightful understanding of the world around him. No matter where you travel in the world Bob's music resonates with a sense of freedom and hope. Here are some of the other artists that have released at least one memorable album if not more ... Burning Spear, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Third World, LKJ, Steel Pulse, Aswad, Black Uhuru, Misty in Roots, Bill Laswell, Fat Freddy's Drop, Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, Colloseum, The Doors, James Brown, Bootsy Collins, Yello, Sonic Youth, Lou Reed, John Lee Hooker, Mike Scott (Waterboys), Talking Heads, Roxy Music, Brian Eno, Son of Dave, Alice in Chains, Carlos Santana, Sade, Miles Davis, Iron Maiden, ACDC, Springbok Nude Girls, Fetish, Manu Chao, John Butler Trio, , Michael Franks, Black Sabbath, Bob Dylan, Free, Neil Young, JJ cale, Dead Prez, The Mars Volta ...
