HUMb

Six years ago a few friends started a new band during a jammsession. When you catch HUMb on stage now, youll see 9 musicians. Theyre all students between 19 and 25 years old and they know each other by hanging around in Antwerp, probably the most funky city in Belgium. In the beginning HUMb played a sort of elementary Hip-Hop style of music, but through the years they got more and more influenced by jazz and funk. In comes a tight horn section and a female singer and HUMb is ready to rock the nations

Experience

The sound is a harmonious partymix of Funk&Hip-Hop with references to jazz, rock and more exotic styles of music. In other words: great music to dance on! They bring their vibes with so much energy and pleasure on stage that they spontaneously create a superb party with the crowd. HUMb has a well known and respected live-reputation and is constantly eager to spread them positive vibes! When you have a chance to see them live, expect nothing less than a orgastic experience and a sound so powerfull, it will blow you out of your shoes!

Past years

Theyve won several regional contests in 2000 and 2001 and as a reward for that, they got to play on big Belgian festivals and concert stages. After a little break they started again at the end of 2002 and they put even more time and energy in their music, to make the HUMb-sound more professional. Not without results: theyve won a contest called demopoll on Studio Brussels (thats a national radio station), and got airplay on Radio1 (another national radio) with their first mini-cd. This mini-cd is their first serious attempt to catch the HUMb-vibe on record, a sort of blueprint of where they stand now. After all this years of gaining experience they are ready to take HUMb to a higher level. They have played at several clubs and festivals, big and small (Socha Reggae River Splash in Slovenia, Mano Mundo and HoveLive in Belgium) in their own name and as a support for bands such as Cartel Deluxe, Relax, Starflam, Svengali Squad, Delinquent Habits. HUMb crew also performed in The Netherlands, Slovenia and more European tours in the future are being planned as you read this.In 2003 HUMb was contacted to help with the promo-tour of the Popdag. This event is a project of the Belgian government (department education and culture) and its aim was to bring music and culture closer into the lessons at school. Members of the HUMb-crew went to schools all over Belgium and improvised live on the playgrounds to support a video promo-spot. The HUMb-crew also did a special act with a Dance Dj from Antwerp on the day the Popdag took place. The project was sold out and was a big success.

Besides HUMb

The musicians of the band are young but gifted players. The keyboard-player Jan Willems was a member of the Zap Mama live band as they did a tour in 2003 and 2004. He also contributed to the latest record of DJ Grazhoppa, one of the greatest Hip-Hop djs in Belgium/Europe. The man on the sax, Sven Doms plays live solos during DJ-sets of dance-djs, projects that even brought him to Spain and Portugal. He also did some work in the studio for an album by Starflam, Belgian biggest Hip-Hop band. The MC is also a RAGGA-MC better known as Verbal Essence. He played at some festivals with a dancehall-ragga dj from Antwerp.Most of all, HUMb is a live-band with a very powerfull performance packed with tons of steamy energy.
