Born in London but raised in Bath, saxophonist, clarinettist, composer and band leader Charly Richardson’s music explores contemporary jazz, reggae, soul, hip-hop, klezmer, fusion and beyond. Beginning his musical life in Bath’s pubs and cafes as teenager, Charly quickly developed into a competent jazz player, touring Italy, France, Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic with quartets and big bands. Since then Charly has performed in venues including the Barbican, Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Spitz, Cargo, Borderline, the Albany, and Bush Hall.He has recorded with/played alongside Pee Wee Ellis, Deidre Cartwright, Dylan Howe, DJ Sparkii, The Chaser Jazz Quartet, Zashiki Warashi, Lyanna Austin and Tunday Akintan, Tor, Nebraska, Toby Wainwright Johns, Piers Innes, Chosen Fume, Sheldon King, and members of the Lee Scratch Perry Band, Babyhead, Vex’d, Portico Quartet, Spiritualized, Goldfrapp, Four Kornerz, Plan B’s Band, Blackbud, Chik Budo, Malarchy, Gringo Ska and many more.At 19 Charly moved to South London to read Popular Music Studies as Goldsmith’s College. Engaged with artists from multiple backgrounds and disciplines, Charly’s performance and compositional style quickly broadened, embracing avant-garde jazz, gospel, Eastern-European folk, and dancehall-reggae to name but a few. Forming a jazz quintet and a reggae/soul band under his own name, Charly eagerly began developing his unique musical sound.TIME WASTER
During his time at Goldmith’s College Charly released his debut album ‘Time Waster’ with Avocado Music Productions. Featuring a dazzling array of London-based musicians, ‘Time Waster’ bridges contemporary and free jazz, hard-grooving soul, irresistible reggae and exploratory improvisation."Fast flowing, smooth grooving, slinky, sassy, Jazz Fusion. If you love free form Jazz, then you will love Charly Richardson’s Time Waster. It is an album that gives a nice contemporary twist on Jazz Rhythms, vibes and movements! If your ears had taste buds this would be sweeter than Honey and more sour than sour Skittles… Taste the Rainbow!" iTunes customer"A real jem of a record- this is a record that you can listen to time and time again" iTunes customer AWARDS

"From a strong field of applicants, Charly stood out. He had a desire to take his music further and a clear strategy of how to do this. He really impressed us with his drive to get his music known through his website, debut album and playing at gigs. He clearly has the talent to succeed, and we decided to help him along by awarding him our first Goldsmiths Award. Charly brought a seven piece band to play at our latest fundraising event and really got the crowd moving." Ede Macgill, Music for AlicePRS Foundation for New Music Atom Awards 2007- Composer Bursary
