Portico Quartet are four young musicians based in London. Nick Mulvey, Duncan Bellamy, Jack Wyllie and Milo Fitzpatrick met in 2005 as they began studying in London.
Comprised of soprano Saxophone (Wyllie), double bass (Fitzpatrick), Hang and percussion (Mulvey), and drums and Hang (Bellamy), their sound is truly unique, exciting and fresh.
Forging contemporary jazz with modern classical tendencies (think Steve Reich and Philip Glass) along with many other genres, they have created an inimitable sound that has been compared to the work of Ben Allison, Esbjorn Svennson Trio and The Cinematic Orchestra amongst many others.
Their debut album released on the new Vortex imprint of Babel Label, which has released albums by the likes of Polar Bear and Acoustic Ladyland, will be out in early November. Its going to be a banger!
