LOOK!!! EVERYONE LOVES THE NEW VORTEX!!!!
Jazzwise Magazine says:
"The Vortex Jazz Club – a year after successfully relocating from Stoke Newington to Dalston - has gone from strength to strength, becoming part of the cultural hub in central Hackney . While the atmosphere and attitude of London’s famous “listening jazz venue†have been maintained with a smart and stylish interior, the consistency and quality of the music remains extremely high, with monthly appearances by the UK’s most acclaimed and cutting edge artists such as Evan Parker, Django Bates, Dame Cleo Laine and many more alongside prestigious international artists such as Tim Berne and Jerry Bergonzi . Everyone that plays there values both the environment and audience who come prepared to be challenged as well as entertained. With the rejuvenation of the square that the venue overlooks underway and with plans to add a record shop and even to record gigs for sale via download, the Vortex is leading the way as London’s most progressive jazz venue."

These people are great......Come and see for yourself!!!NEWSFLASH!!!!!!!
The Vortex Jazz Club has been awarded a grant of £28,640 from the Grants for the
Arts scheme of Arts Council England. The money will be used towards acquiring a
Steinway grand piano for the club and improving the p.a.
This is the first time in the 20 years The Vortex Jazz Club has been running in
East London (initially situated on Stoke Newington Church St and for the past
two years in the Dalston Culture House on Gillett Sq) that it has received a
significant grant of this nature. It has shown itself to be a valuable asset not
only to the local area but also as one of London's top international 'listening'
venues. This can be witnessed by the calibre of artists who play at the club and
utilise the piano including leading UK pianists, John Taylor, Django Bates,
Steinway artist Richard Fairhurst and Mercury nominated Zoe Rahman, and some ofthe great musicians from overseas, such as Uri Caine, Sylvie Courvoisier and
Craig Taborn. The ownership of a top quality piano will further confirm the
Vortex as a leading venue for jazz, and continue to give hundreds of artists the
opportunity to perform in an intimate setting on a first-class piano every year.
The Vortex has also received assistance from benefit concerts by Dame Cleo Laine
and Sir John Dankworth, and by world famous violinist Nigel Kennedy as well as
private donations. Together with the grant received, the club has now raised
£35,000 towards the total cost of the piano. This means that £16,000 still needs
to be raised. This can be achieved by your continual support and by regularly
visiting the club to enjoy the vast range of musical talent on offer. (For its
day to day operations, the club is reliant on income from ticket sales, the bar,
the goodwill of a substantial number of volunteers and private
donations.)
Around £3000 will be used to ensure that the club will be able to have a top
quality p.a. system to complement the first class music that the club
programmes.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep up the support, and thank you to everyone who has helped us so far....
