About Me

I went to Canterbury Art College in the mid Seventies and the music of that time still influences me. After that I spent two years in London, working as an illustrator. In '79 I moved to California and settled in the Bay Area. The improv scene was very active at that time and I learnt a lot from other musicians. I returned to England in 1992. I have always had rather hermetic relationship with my bass. I have been playing for 35 years. I don't play in any bands at the moment. Where I live is rather limited for serious interaction with other musicians. I concentrate mostly on Solo Bass Guitar. My equipment is crude at the moment. I play a Mexican Fretless Jazz Bass. I use a Zoom multi effects pedal. The Tracks:Margate Nocturne: Improvised, no overdubs. Recorded at MUSART Studios by my friend Mark Hewins, early 2007. Gafurius's Design: Self recorded in March 2007 with a digital delay and volume pedal. Improvised, no overdubs. Mark Hewins enhanced and edited the recording at Musart. Gafurius's manuscript describes the 'Music of the Spheres' in modal and cultural terms. It was produced in 1496 in Milan. It is interesting for it's allocation of classical learning to the modes in order to explain the unexplainable. You can find a large reproduction of it in my Pics.
