Motéma Music, with offices in San Francisco and New York, is the brainchild of arts patrons in the San Francisco Bay area and is guided by a collective of veteran industry professionals based primarily in New York. U.S. and Canadian distribution is through Redeye Distribution. In Europe, distribution is through UK-based New Note Distribution and German based In and Out Records. Some product is also distributed in Japan through DIW. Motéma's mission to provide creative, comprehensive and intelligent career support for artists with extraordinary levels of accomplishment and the proven ability to reach across the footlights to move people's souls.The first release on the label, in February of 2003, was Soul Pools by master jazz and world music drummer, Babatunde Lea. The album featured international jazz stars Hilton Ruiz, Ernie Watts, Frank Lacey and Mario Rivera. Also featured was guest artist Raul Midon who was recently signed to Blue Note Records. The second release, in March 2004 was from Internationally renowned Jazz pianist Lynne Arriale. Both discs received outstanding press in the US and abroad. Profiles of the artists and the label have appeared in Billboard Magazine, Jazziz and in a variety of regional papers.Other releases since that time include two more by Babatunde Lea, the album Soup's on Fire by label founder Jana Herzen, plus the cd “Come Together†by Lynne Arriale which has been featured on NPR & PBS, and is currently gathering rave reviews and selling consistently in the US, England and in mainland Europe.In this challenging time for the music industry, Motéma takes a fresh approach focusing on product and tying their artist in with non-profit organizations for support.
