Hello and welcome to my myspace page, thanks stopping in. My main touring gig is as bassist for the outstanding San Diegio funk/soul group On The One which can be heard performing all over the country. Also Throughout 2008 I will be performing a series of Colorado and western US shows with THE BRIAN JORDAN TRIO featuing: Brian Jordan (KDTU) on guitar/vocals, Dave Watts (The Motet) on drums , and myself on bass. Please be sure to catch this amazing line up of players as we form for what will be several very special concerts throughout Colorado front range and western mountain towns. I'm 39 years old. On June 10th 2006 I married a wonderful woman named Kay Swanson. Kay is with out question, my best friend. She, through her love and encouregment has won my heart forever. I'm so very blessed to have such an amazing partner in this life. One of the many blessings my loving god has given to me. Kay is a singer, pianist, bassist and flautist. My wife has a very special talent and can be heard singing with her Soul/Motown group Juicebox, check them out on myspace.
Since the age of 12 I have played the bass guitar. Over the years I have played all styles at one point or another. Funky bluesy stuff is perhaps the most fun for me, I have done a great deal of rock, soul, jazz, pop, country, and gospel too. Music has taken me many many places, and continues to do so. In recent times I have been learning blues/funk/rock guitar. Learning guitar has given me a whole new dig on being a musician, a challenge and a great way to further develop my chord vocabulary and melodic voice. I enjoy writing songs and will be recording my first solo album soon. I'm writing mostly funky spiritual rock songs about my life expierience at this point. I do though, write a great deal of instrumental jazz rock fusion material and my long time musical friend, the blues.
I'm currently on tour nationally with the outstanding soul funk quartet ON THE ONE, I also often do freelance bass gigs and studio work with blues, jazz, funk and rock groups all over the country.
Going back a bit I spent 8 years in Tampa Fl. There I was in several bands including Clang, Beanstalk, PW Fenton and The Second Ward, POLE, The Beasley's, The Slush Puppies and the James Peterson Blues Band. I have played bass on 27 albums with local and national musicians thus far. The legendary Tiny Tim and Diamond Teeth Mary as well as shock rocker GG Allin were among the "unusual" artists I played on recordings with.
In 2002-2003 I toured consistently with a Jazz/funk group called Giant People featuring trumpeter Carlos Washington, John Staten, Ignacio Arango, and Jesse Malloy. I lived in San Diego for a year with the great Cuban guitarist/bassist Ignacio Arango. I learned a great deal from Ignacio. He is one of my hero's.
For fun I like the fellowship of AA, restoring old 60's Chevy pick up trucks, fishing, camping, biking, skiing, mules, snowmobiles, and dirt bikes. I don't drink or do drugs(anymore) I've been clean and sober for several years now. I'm an AA guy, and a very grateful recovering alcoholic. Only by the grace of God am I alive today, I'm very active with service work as it pertains to helping others in dealing with lifestyle changes and working through alcohol and drug issues. I have a website, If you would like to check it out. You can learn more about me and listen to 50+ mp3s of my favorite recorded tracks.
