Funky bassist with On The One & Brian Jordan Trio

About Me

I'm happy to announce that I recently received a string endorsement with Black Diamond Strings, an outstanding custom bass and guitar string company based in Sarasota FL. My hero Verdine White bassist with Earth Wind And Fire Also endorses Black Diamond. The strings are killer and I have been using them on the road and in the studio with great results.I am teaming up with Black Diamond In 2009 to start a series of funky bass clinics nation wide to promote the strings and my soon to be released solo album entitled Soul Clap. In my clinics, I will demonstrate many of the funky techniques I have developed over the last 25 years and discuss my approach to performing, song writing, and share my thoughts on maintaining a healthy spiritual condition within musical passions. I'm very excited that my educational reach will have such a great opportunity to expand. I look forward to further sharing my gifts and developing that side of my musical goals. Thanks to Black Diamond for standing behind me. Please visit www.blackdiamondstrings.com
Hello and welcome to my myspace music page, please check out www.andyirvinegrooves for lots of free music and additional info. I tour full time with On The One and part time with THE BRIAN JORDAN TRIO featuring: Brian Jordan (Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Lauren Hill, Banyan) on guitar /vocals, Dave Watts (The Motet) on drums and myself on bass. As of May 22 2007, I have been consistantly touring with the outstanding San Diego funk/soul group ON THE ONE. Lead by and featuring my long time friends, super funky drummer John Staten and Sax player Jesse Molloy. You can get all the tour dates at www.myspace.com/ontheone. I hope to see you at the shows!
I started playing the bass in 1981 at age 12, at 15 I sat in with Stanley Clarke setting a life time of funky musical goals in motion. My career passion is as a bassist, and song writer. Since 1984 I have recorded 27 full length albums and have played with many bands with varied styles, including: The Andy Irvine Blues Collective, Clang, Hippo, Beanstalk, John Wesley, POLE, The Freaks, Giant People, On The One, The Brian Jordan Trio, Stereomaid, James Peterson Band, Juicebox, Arnee J Green Band, The Beasley's, Diunna Greenlief And Blue Mercy, The Wapiti Jazz Project, PW Fenton, and Huge In Germany to list a few. I enjoy writing music. This page was created for showcasing some of my favoret recorded bass and guitar tracks. There are hundreds that I've done, I'm proud of every one.
I have a deep passion for music performance, song writing and education. I'm very active performing nationaly with the group's: funk/soul quartet ON THE ONE, and The Brian Jordan Trio, and in my home state of Colorado with my own groups: The Wapiti Jazz Project and Blues Collective. I earn my living doing session work, teaching bass , and touring the country performing. Please be sure to come out to a show near you and have a funky good time! The debut On The One studio album entitled LOVE ADDICTION, was released in December 2007, I am contributing musically to the second album that is in the works this summer and fall 2008, with a spring 2009 release slated .
I am blessed to have a life full of music and enjoy sharing my gifts and giving back to the young musicians of my community through teaching. Reaching people's hearts through music gives me purpose and joy in this life.
I am a grateful recovering alcoholic and strongly support the fellowship of AA, the 12 step program that helped give me a new way life. Another of my interests with which I find purpose and satisfaction is service work related to helping others in dealing with life changes surrounding the disease of alcoholism. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for my loving wife Kay. She is my biggest supporter and an amazing life partner.
I just started work on my own album of musical works. The sound can be best described as is a blend of funk, soul, rock, and gospel influences. For my project I have enlisted the outstanding talents of John Staten to play drums and co-produce , and my hero Ignacio Arango to co-write, play guitar and contribute his amazing horn charts.Created with mySpace Profile Editor Created with mySpace Profile Editor
