World Fusion Folk

About Me

I am a singer and songwriter born and raised in the city of Sheffield in England. My mothers side of the family are from Wales (my grand mother) and France (my Grandfather) my father is English. This explains a lot, why I feel English and then I feel a little isolated too, I felt this way all of my life. I have been a vocalist in various Sheffield bands over the years. Some good ones, some not so good but I never played guitar in any of the bands, even though I could play one. I had wrote songs both music and lyrics, but they never really got used in the bands. Well the lyrics did. I had always wanted to write and perform my owns songs, but the other people in bands were always much more talented than me when it came to playing instruments. The last band I was in was Root Fish (dance, dub, rock music) as their singer which I did for a few years. The band split up and we went our separate ways, we are still mates and I owe them and Jamie Smith our then manager a lot. You have my heart felt thanks for all you have done. I then went on to teach music technology for a few years. I turned my back on music for a while and left Sheffield and headed out to Ireland. I spent two years in Galway working in various jobs that were not musical in anyway. But all the time I was soaking up the sights and sounds of Eire. It was then that I began to compose songs again after not being able to write any new songs at all. I think I was really in a depressive kind of state at this time. I became inspired by the music I heard out in the west coast and else where. I returned home to Sheffield from Galway after two years away, it was then I decided to set about getting the new songs together. The new songs I wrote represented a change of direction from my previous work. Folk music, Alt country and Irish trad all had a big part to play in this my musical rebirth. Though it has only added to the blend of music I produce, I can not really claim to be a folk or traditional musician, though I love this music after all it does influence me a great deal. I have the upmost respect for people who are ! Punk was the first music that meant something to me and is still in the mix and my heart and head. It always will be a part of what makes me tick. I now play live with just voice and guitar, playing live is what it about for me. After a year of deep personal turmoil I have come out the other side a far wiser man.I am looking to put out a CD EP .I also plan to play more gigs this year, we will have to see how things go.But it all about just getting my music out here and saying what I have to say. They say a Leopard can not change its spots, but I'll tell you this one has.So no matter what I am going to keep on playing and making music until I drop down dead, that's it really.Save The World - One Click At A Time!

I t is a real mixture of styles in Varying degrees. It is all dependent on the songs I am doing really. I am not a purist of anything.I use acoustic guitars, I sometimes use synths and drum beats and computer based sounds. People need to lable things so I call it world roots fusion!
