About Me

Vois Animated Images
Hello everyone, I'm Andrea, I'm 22 years old and I'm from Iceland :) I have started to volunteer for ABC Children's aid, I just started 27th of march.. I just needed to do something more, something outside the computer...and I thought it would be fun, What i was doing was putting bills to sponsors in envelopes...:)..and matching a picture of a child to its profile and put it together.. I just go there when I have time to... I sponsor a child in Uganda through ABC Children's Aid, and sponsor Unicef. I have been inspired by Invisible Children. What they are doing is absolutely amazing. I reccommend you check out these videos, then you will know what I'm talking about... I will not be able to go to Displace Me, I really want to be there, But instead my thoughts, and my heart will be with you on this extraordinary night!! I am capable of spreading the word though... I can tell people about it!I Sponsor a boy named Abdu, he is 8 years old and will turn 9 years old this year. I have been sponsoring him for 4 years now, for about little 29 dollars a Month!! that gives him school, school clothes, school books, one meal a day, medical care, a more rich social life, it gives him hope. I may not be able to help millions of children, but if I can help one, it is a miracle happening. Every Sponsor, whether they are sponsoring specific children, or donating for the most neccessity, are miracle workers, its the only way i know of putting it. Because it gives people their lives back. I have received at least one picture of him every year, and an extra one if i give more in the christmas present, the christmas present is best given as a money donation like the sponsor ship, because these people know what is most neccesary, and believe me, those kids cheer for neccesary things too, like mosquito nets, matresses, pillows, school bags, shoes, socks, pants, etc.. because they often have so little of those things... most of the houses in his village are with mud floors, and usually just blankets to sleep on. Abdu is an orphan. His mother died of aids, and then his father abandoned him and his 5 syblings, leaving them with his aged grandmother. I also get his grades and christmas cards... which is always a rewarding mail to get. 29 dollars a month, i dont even notice that any money are gone... i have payed more for a single dinner. I also sponsor Unicef, there i give 7.42 dollars a month for anything that is most neccesary.. like raising money for a new school, giving people medical care etc.. 1.50 dollars can actually save a life, it buys one shot that is an anti-drug to some disease.. Somewhere i read that there was no selfless good deed, and i think that is very true, because when people do a good deed, it makes them feel good inside, and that is not a bad thing, that is good, This makes me feel good inside, I am saving a human life. That is extraordinary. I truly reccommend it from the bottom of my heart! Best wishes, AndreaLayout Provided By CodeMyLayout.com - Myspace Layouts

My Interests

(Video Below) Children of Grace - I think this one is so awesome, so glad i found it! It introduces Children Of Grace.. check it out...(Video Below) On the News: "What is "Invisible Children"? (very good to start viewing videos on this one..it explains alot, although i know of more videos that explain even more, like there is a special video for the bracelet campaign :)(Video Below) "Invisible What!?" (Text, i reccommend pausing to read) i like this one very much...because it explains the situation and is with humour too....:)(Video Below) "Schools for Schools" I love that video! So inspiring! Awesome song and GREAT video! I watch this one very often.. The song is called "Welcome To The Black Parade" and is by "My Chemical Romance""I got soul" This is very inspiring.. I watch it again and again...never get tired of it.. love the song and the video! The song is called "All These Things That I`ve Done" and is by "The Killers"..I thought the song's name was "I got soul"...I was so happy when i found it!! I absolutely love the song,, but i love it more when i watch the video ;-)(Video Below) "Who Inspires You?" I LOVE this too.. (Invisible Children inspire me) The song is called "Meant To Live" and is by "Switchfoot"(Video Below) "In Uganda many kids are orphans, Sponsorship gives..."video below: Dirty Aid, dirty water. It's kinda like a 16 minute documentary about water, people out in the third world countries have too little water, and often the water they have is dirty, which leads to disease and illness. Often animals and people drink from the same water source. Flies drop in it, animals shit in it.... that is just one situation, there are many versions of bad situations with water. Water is life. over 70% of the human body is water. I once was working with a girl that got to go to Africa.. she brought Icelandic water tank with her.. she gave some to the people there and they actually asked what it was, she said it was water and they said Really??

I'd like to meet:

I would mostly like to meet people who are also motivated or inspired by Invisible Children like me, or maybe someone who didnt know about it, or if this has helped them get motivated or inspired too.. Have you seen the Documentary Invisible Children? Do you know what Product (RED) is? Or GuluWalk? I want to tell people about it... Invisible Children have inspired me to DO SOMETHING.. so this is one way of spreading the word. It would be very nice to see if someone notices it... it always means alot to me. _____ I want to thank everyone for their beautiful comments and messages... I don't know if you realize just how much it means to me...it makes a dark day brighter :-)

Every night in Northern Uganda, Africa thousands of children cram together in basements, allys and small buildings, hoping they will remain safe throughout the night without the fear of being kidnapped and forced to become a soldier. Many of the kids have lost parents and other siblings. Their night routine of walking to safety usually leaves them with no food, no showers, and no clean clothes after several miles of walking there and then having to walk back again. Their war with Kampala has been going on for 20 years.Once a child is kidnapped, the boys are forced to become fighters and the girls sex slaves. The LRA also uses brutal tactics such as cutting of hand, ears and lips to intimidate Northern Uganda. More than 30,000 children have been kidnapped by the LRA.Even displacment camps are attacked by the LRA and they abduct children there also. This is why the kids need to walk (commute) several miles every night to be safe at night, because their parents can't even trust the displacment camps. Now, what you can do: I am only a supporter of stopping the war in Uganda to save the children, and dont have the sufficient amount of information like the official website does. Go to www.myspace.com/invisiblechildren and add them to your friends list. Go to www.invisiblechildren.com buy the Dvd, and the braclets show the dvd to all your friends and get them to join in the fight to stop the war! Pray every night for the children that are walking just to try to get to sleep at night without the fear of being abducted! Make your own myspace and spread the word! If you want, I can get you the codes for the banners. And I have MSN and Yahoo! Messengers.. Send me a message if you want to talk. Thanks.
