About Me

GuluWalk is a worldwide grassroots movement for peace in northern Uganda. Started in 2005, the initiative has also raised thousands of dollars for programs and support on the ground in the war-torn region.
In the midst of the country's 21-year civil war, over 1.7-million people have been displaced, on top of thousands of "night commuters", children who trek each night to town centers in the districts of Gulu, Kitgum and Pader – for fear of being maimed, raped, abducted or even killed by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA).The displaced persons have been forced into abhorrent conditions in camps where hundreds of people are dying every week because of a lack of clean water, food and medical care.
Last October 21, 'GuluWalk Day 2006' saw over 30,000 participants in 82 cities and 15 different countries lend their voice to the children of northern Uganda. In all, over $500,000 was raised to help support programs on the ground.
Several notable individuals joined up in support of GuluWalk in 2006, including Senator Lt.-Gen Romeo Dallaire, Lloyd Axworthy, Gerry Caplan, Stephen Lewis, Allan Rock, Chantal Kreviazuk, Sarah McLachlan and Steve Nash.
