..........Mass e Bhat synopsis (2009)Bangladesh, 2008. From textile factories populated with child workers to the high-rise apartments of the nouvea riche, from the idyllic rural heartlands to the rickshaw drivers of Dhaka city center and from the displaced and stigmatized Bihari people to the mystery of a disappearing mountain. 'Mass e Bhat' paints a portrait of a country coming to terms with it's status as a "developing nation". Through a series of interconnecting vignettes portraying real people and their everyday lives, the audience is introduced to the challenges and contradictions of a country forced to question the true meaning of development and its place in the wider world. Background informationWe have had the idea of doing a documentary in Bangladesh for many years. We came up with idea while we were in pre production on AmaZulu. We put together treatment's but the opportunity to go there never arose until Hannan did a personal visit in March 2008 to see his family and whilst he was there put together a small Bangladeshi film crew and decided to go out to the slums, factories and villages to talk to young people about how life is in Bangladesh at the present time. That initial visit kicked off the creation of Mass E Bhat. We edited some scenes together and trailer which we then showed to some NGO's to raise awareness on the issue of child labor. Consortium for Street Children who saw the value in a longer documentary and worked with us in getting us to go back and film the rest of the documentary. In September/October 2008 both Hannan and Richard went to Bangladesh for a month to shoot a majority of the documentary and while we were there we reunited with the Bangladeshi film crew and went on a whirlwind visit round Bangladesh to speak with more young people in a variety of different circumstances from the slums to the villages to the factories to the jungle to one of the most populated but exciting cities in the world Dhaka. Final part of filming took place between December 2008 to January 2009.Mass E Bhat 2nd TrailerThis the second trailer to be released for Mass e Bhat the production we made in Bangladesh. We are flying out to Cape Town tommorro till the 4th October to shoot a documentary about street kids, we were going to make a doc about the 'Homeless World Cup' but someone beat us to it and have brought the exclusive rights to it (doh).. Over the last few days we have been working David Maidment O.B.E who is the Childs Rights Adviser to Amnesty International UK and the Co-chair of the Consortium For Street Children , it was through discussions with him on the work they are doing with children that we thought it would be good to still go to South Africa and see if we can make a doc highlighting homelessness amongst young children in Cape Town. To be honest we are not sure what type of doc it will turn into once we get there, we just know we want to make something about this subject if we can....Wish us luck and we shall catch up with you all once we get back, hopefully having completed a new doc...Thankyou for all the support we have recieved from our friends on Myspace especially those in Leeds...
