About Me

"Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time."When asked which dog wins, I reflect for a moment and reply, "The one I feed the most."
The experience of great loss will really change a person. It makes us look back and reflect on perhaps what we are missing in our own lives, and within ourselves. Nearly nine years after losing my Father to cancer, I still struggle every day. It was the single most difficult thing I have ever endured. However, I am still learning and growing from that loss. My Father made me want to be a better person, and I can only hope that I am living up to that expectation. Not to be successful, or have a big house with piles of money in the bank, but to be a better person on the inside. To accept people for who they are, no matter what. Look past the color of their skin, the bible they carry, the God they pray to. We are all the same; we are all human beings who on some level radiate unaffected humanity and compassion. Growing up I would spend many weekends with my Grandmother. I loved those visits. I always thought “wow, she has so much to eat.” There was always so much food there. Of course 30 years later I ask myself “Who keeps 14 cans of fruit cocktail on hand?, “just in case.” “You can never have too much.” She would tell us, or “I would hate to run out.” I lost my Grandmother last year at the age of 96. But as I reflect back on her and my Father and some other very close people in my life that I lost, I realize they each, in some way, had a terrific, full life, surrounded by a family or friends who loved them. When we pass on, all we can hope for is that we leave something behind that will impact the ones we are leaving, a cherished memory of better times gone by. My Father and Grandmother have impacted me that way. I will cherish my memories with them forever. If you took the time to read this far, think of your family, your loved ones, your friends. Cherish them, spend time with them, love them. It’s something we can never have too much of, and something I wouldn’t want you to run out of.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates vision for tomorrow. What are you grateful for?
A drop of water becomes vapor, which is invisible, yet vapor materializes into billowing clouds, and from clouds rain falls back to earth, forming river torrents and eventually merging into the sea. Has the drop of water died along the way? No, it undergoes a new expression at each stage. Likewise, the idea that I have a fixed body locked in space and time is a mirage. Any drop of water inside my body could have been ocean, cloud, river, or spring the day before. "Life After Death" Deepak Chopra

Habitat for Humanity 1 Yr Anniv of Hurricane Katrina

Add to My Profile | More Videos
Hurricane Katrina and the devastation left in its wake happened well over a year ago. However, very little has been done to restore the lives of the thousands of displaced residents from their homes. For the most part, the city remains a virtual ghost town. The AP reports Billions of promised federal dollars to fix New Orleans' crumbling infrastructure have gone largely untapped a year after Hurricane Katrina. City officials complain that a snarl of red tape, restrictions and unexpectedly high costs have kept hundreds of public buildings in disrepair, streets pocked with potholes and most parks too dirty for children to play...This is unacceptable, especially considering we spend over $170 million dollars per day on a war in Iraq. FEMA has announced temporary trailers for displaced residents are going to soon be revoked. Where will this leave these residents? Displaced again? What can you do? Please donate or volunteer to help. www.habitat.org
In addition to my efforts to help stop Genocide, I am a huge advocate and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Together we can help rebuild devastated parts of the world. One room, one house, one community at a time. We are one world, lets do it together!

My Interests

Save DarfurI have been aware for sometime now about the tragedy in Darfur. It is just recently, after doing much reading and watching alot of news about this horrific genocide that continues to occur, that I have decided to become more involved. I recently joined the Genocide Intervention Network, and will be participating in fundraising events to aid in this much needed coalition. Are we doing enough? We go through our lives every day, never worrying about where our next meal will come from, or that next Gucci handbag. The media is more concerned with Britney Spears shaving her head than the tragedy that is upon these people. The discussion about this growing catastrophe has gone on for too long. There is urgent need for action to provide protection now. Tomorrow will be too late.

"Only by revealing the failures, both individual and organizational, that permitted it, can any good emerge from something so bleak and so terrible. Only by exposing how and why it happened can there ever be any hope that the new century will break with the dismal record of the last."

Heroes:

I of course admire all of the Service Men and Women who put their lives on the line for their Country, whether it is for a cause they believe in or not, they are out on the front lines voluntarily. However, there is and will only ever be one Hero in my life, and that man is My Father!! To sit back and watch the single most important person in my life become stricken with cancer, and struggle and suffer for two years without ever complaining, without ever saying why me, to continue to show true love, compassion and absolutely no fear of the unknown, that man is a hero!
