My name is Carl Thomas and I was born last of five children in a town outside of Chicago Il. As a young boy, I wasn't talented in a lot of areas but, I had the drive and desire to be better than everyone at everything. This made me sorest looser ever yet giving me the personal task to work on, on my road to becoming a man. However, music was something that I always excelled at but never recognized because it was the very nature of who I was.I am the product of an environment founded on public housing, n a community that offered you chance of education, church life, gang bangin', pimpin', factory life, or a good old American trailer. Geographically, I know it's the Midwest but at times it seemed to be Midworst. But, that is another story.Forward, in my quest for R&B greatness, LOL. I left home after high school and ended up on a planet called Medina. I was intrigued by the sense of community among my people there. Medina gave me the freedom to creatively grow as a musician & artist, the strength to rid my mind of Midwest chains, and the room to understand what I did not appreciate about home. Being there, I didn't have to search for the music business, it found me.Back then I was young, dumb and having fun! I thought I would hit with the first deal I had, Wrong! I had the awakening experience of being handed a pink slip from the label. But, by that time my patience had built to a steady level. And, I took deal, after deal until I met Sean Combs signing to Bad Boy in 1997. I am proud to say that Bad Boy was the only situation that ever spawned any fruit in my music life. In the beginning things were fine. Although Puff knew that I was talented he didn't have a direction for me, being the distracted individual he is. But, then again, so am I sometimes. So, I was allowed to go out and create my own direction and to find the songs I know I needed for the Emotional album. The process was; I recorded songs, and he approved or disapproved. But, he never said, I need you to SING THIS! It was very simple.So, the Emotional album is released and becomes a commercial success with the help of Andre Harrell, Harve Pierre, Jeff Borrows, Tonyia Selvant, and many other faithful staffers.Let Us all be warned and this is a lesson to me. Pride Is The Enemy!!!Now, on to the creation of my second album Let's Talk About. In a nutshell, the label tried to expand in there own direction on "the sound" I creative. And basically, the identity of that album became too much of "them" and not enough of me. Thus, that good old soul music ya'll love to hear, sort of drowned in the Bad Boyism. Never the less Let's Talk About It still went gold with little to no support. Still! No foul, No crime. I took pride in my loyalty, foolishly, or not.On October 31, 2004, my eldest brother and best friend, Duranthany, was brutally shot and murdered in Aurora, IL. He became the victim of a random drive by doled out by a couple of damn kids, 19 & 14 years old, to be exact! This catastrophic event occurred rocking my entire foundation and, the label did nothing to inform the fans. So, through my on going healing process, to the world, Carl Thomas the artist just seemed to fade and disappear into thin air. Dealing with the helpless feeling of not being able to do anything about my brothers death I realized that there were things about my life I could change and the state of my career was first on my list. This prompted my decision to part ways with Sean Combs and Bad Boy Entertainment. It's really all business and I'm glad to say Puff and I still love and respect each other, sharing no bad blood.So, There It Is!
