About Me

Greetings! I'm a poet, a writer and an indie filmmaker. My first "reel" short film, "Snapshot" (see poster and trailer) has most recently screened at the Michigan Festival Shorts Program at the Royal Oak Main on November 29, 2007, organized by the brilliant Maggie Patton and A.E. Griffin. "Snapshot" has also screened at the Midwest International Film and Theater Festival on June 9, 2007, as part of the Cinema D program on Friday, June 22, 2007, and as part of the Trinity Coalition Film Festival on August 4, 2007. I also recently worked on another short with Nick Nettles called "Another Day," starring Jacquie Floyd, Karen Drum, and Jeff Priskorn. I'm entering my feature length script "Silver" in various contests, and I made the quarterfinals in Red Inkworks. Next project: "Patterns," which is about a juggler who is also a card sharp who gets caught cheating at a table full of badass high-rollers and the chaos that results. I'll be shooting in May or June of 2008.I'm also a poet. Most recently, the myspace journal Medusa Literature has been publishing my poems (check them out!!)

I'm also politically progressive and a Christian, and my writing reflects this. At the root, my scripts and my poetry are all about the conflict between dominant and transgressive paradigms. I'm a vegetarian, love animals, and am interested in holistic health practices and general fitness (yoga/pilates, etc.) I have two crazy dogs I call Thing 1 and Thing 2. I don't drink, do drugs, or eat meat, and I prefer monogamy.I also moonlight as a superhero (see below):
You are Supergirl Supergirl 97% Wonder Woman 87% The Flash 75% Spider-Man 70% Superman 65% Green Lantern 65% Hulk 60% Catwoman 60% Batman 55% Robin 49% Iron Man 45% Lean, muscular and feminine.
Honest and a defender of the innocent.

My Interests

Primarily film and literature. Also, music, travel, politics, spirituality. Adventure. I'm a big neophile, I'll try almost anything once.

I'd like to meet:

Other filmmakers, poets, activists and spiritual people. Anyone who intends to be a creative force in this world. And other superheros.

Music:

I have eclectic tastes and love D-town music. I love Jo Serrapere and the Willie Dunns (thanks again for letting me use your songs, Jo). Hullaballoo rocks. The Witches rock. Mary Abraham rocks. Can't get enough of the White Stripes and Electric Six.Outside the D. . .I LOVE Laika. Also other trip-hop/space rock. I like a lot of punk/alternative. Big fan of Henry Rollins and Ian MacKaye. Like Juno Reactor. Jim White. The Stooges. David Bowie. Sleeter Kinney. Any band with Kaia Wilson in it. PJ Harvey. Ani DiFranco. Tori Amos. Like some surf punk like Los Straightjackets. Favorite band of all time is probably Mr. Bungle, though I dig on the stuff Patton is putting out through Ipecac, too.

Movies:

I've really been digging on Jim Jarmusch, lately. I don't know which is my favorite, "Down By Law," "Dead Man," or "Ghost Dog." I wanna be him when I grow up. But I also dig Mary Harron and love what she does. Maybe I wanna be her when I grow up, instead. No, I really want to be Danny Boyle. Yeah. Actually, that's who I want to be. Danny Boyle. Or Christopher Nolan. Or Tarantino, or Rodriguez. I could be them, too. Nevermind, I'll just be myself. Not long ago I saw Hal Hartley's "Fay Grim" and loved it. I saw "Henry Fool" way back, but liked Fay Grim much better. Want to check out some others of his. Favorite nondirecting writer is Charlie Kaufman, hands down. "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is one of my all time favorites. Actors and actresses, too many to name. Elijah Wood, Clive Owen, Kate Winslett, Scarlett Johansson. Just to name a few.

Television:

Don't watch a lot of TV, lately. Too cheap to get On Demand, and not willing to make an appointment with the TV. The only thing I've watched lately is Countdown with Keith Olbermann. To show my nerdiness, I've seen every episode of Star Trek Original Series and Star Trek Next Generation at least twice, and I think Babylon 5 is the best TV show ever made.

Books:

Anything by Neil Gaiman, particularly American Gods. Tolkein's the Lord of the Rings. Herman Hesse's Demian and Steppenwolf. Marianne Williamson's A Return to Love. Douglas Adams' the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. Marge Piercy's Woman on the Edge of Time. JK Rowling's Harry Potter series. Michelle Tea's Rose of No Man's Land. Gregory McGuire's Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Wicked. Everything I've read by Sheri S. Tepper. Arthur Rimbaud's poetry. Rumi's poetry. Jim Carroll's poetry.

Heroes:

Anyone actively working (or who has actively worked) to make the world a better place, and anyone who strives for peace and justice. Jesus, Gandhi, St. Francis of Assisi, Oscar Romero, Martin Luther King Jr. Oprah Winfrey. Marianne Williamson. Julia Butterfly Hill. Henry David Thoreau. Dennis Kucinich. Jim Wallis. Desmond Tutu.
