About Me

Is it really possible to sum yourself up in a paragraph? Well, if I can only give you the most essential details of who I am, I guess a list is in order.I am a:1. life-long Chicagoan with sensibilities way too liberal to be Midwestern.2. quiet person who tends to hug the wall in large group situations.3. writer. I make my living from this skill, and am also working on my first novel.4. geek. My fangirl interests include Masters of the Universe, Muppets, professional wrestling, Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, Dr. Who, zombies, vampires, comics published by DC/Vertigo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the Superman movie franchise.5. kid at heart. This may not be evident to those who see me in public, since I tend to be somewhat reserved and often lost in thought or observations, but those who know me really well can confirm my fun-loving, excitable, optimistic-to-the-point-of-being-naive personality.

My Interests

Co-hosting my podcast, Earth-2.net: The Show, reading, writing, literary events, music, professional wrestling, road trips, travel, intelligent conversation, people-watching, adventure-seeking, writers' colonies, comic conventions, meeting people, good massages, unpretentious people, karaoke, big-ass thunderstorms, animals, bookstores, naps, martial arts, UFC, fitness, film, food, art, DIY culture, friends, fun, and hugs.

I'd like to meet:

People who don't suck. And people who don't take themselves too seriously. Also, people who have done their myspace homework. Which means, please don't send me a friend request if you are only doing so to promote yourself. If you're a band, and you see that I like music that's similar to what you produce, that's one thing, but there's nothing I hate more than being asked to add someone who couldn't even be bothered to read my profile to confirm that I am one of their target audience. This goes for individuals as well. If I don't know you personally and you send me a friend request, please introduce yourself with a note or a PM so I know you're not some stupid spammer.

My Blog

I never promise coherence

This is one of those instances when I'm a little hesitant to post, because I'm afraid my fingers might go haywire and type a whole mess of shit I normally wouldn't say. But since catharsis is needed, ...

Proof that I need a vacation

I was up and around at 5:45 this morning, but somehow convinced myself that it was an hour later than it actually was. I left the house at 6:30 thinking it was 7:30, and as a result, was mighty c...

The reading that almost wasn’t

So yesterday, I was scheduled to read at the Printer's Row Book Fair. And just like with all other readings, I went through my anxiety ritual: agonizing over scene selection, feeli...

The return of insecurity

Shit, have I really gone over a week without saying something? I guess I haven't felt all that talkative. Besides that, I've been stuck in kind of a holding pattern since submitting my thesis draft. P...

Since I haven’t blogged about Idol in a while...

I just want to say, for the record, that I found David Cook's rendition of The World I Know to be incredibly moving. It's a beautiful song to begin with, and I may or may not have squeezed out a tear ...

My moment of triumph

When I returned from my Florida vacation at the beginning of March, I put myself on a somewhat strict writing schedule in order to bang out 150 pages (shitty draft pages I must add) of my novel. That'...

Pressing matters

I hope to elaborate more on this later, since I'm about to join my colleagues for delicious tapas, but I felt the irrepressible urge to quote a chapter from a book I'm reading that I think sums up bea...

Existential mumbo jumbo

A small confession: I spend far too much time obsessing over my significance within various realms: the world at large, the writer/artist/creative community, certain social circles, my immediate and e...
