Hey hey hey hey hey hey!

About Me

Hi. Welcome to Aberfeldy's myspace. Hope you like the tunes.Check out the trailer for new scottish movie "Gamerz", below. Then go and see it at the cinema. It's very funny. Ed Tudor Pole and Arnold Brown are both in it. Aberfeldy provide much of the soundtrack. The young cast are brilliant."Claire", live from the Voodoo Rooms, Dec 07, filmed by Julia. We've just recorded this for our next single, to be released in April."Malcolm", which you can see us playing 92% of in the clip below, is a song co-written with Dorie Jackson who's not only hugely talented but can make you laugh until you are sick on yourself with her impression of a man about to play the flute. We might put it on the next album, even though it's sung from a woman's perspective and we'll have to give most of the money to millionaire mancunian Graham Nash. FUN FOR ALL THE FAMILY (EVEN GRAN) - count the fish puns in the fourth verse. Note the multi-pun right at the end.Of course, as you know, when we're not making music, we're sculpting. Here's one of the latest.I made this guy from my leftover mash and peas at Dublin airport. His gravy moustache gave him a kind of Tom Selleck look, so Ken suggested naming him Magnum Pea Eye. They wouldn't let him on the plane though (Magnum, not Ken).------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------

or download at ..WHAT THE CRITICS SAID - Andy Gill for the Independent - "If you liked The Magic Numbers, you'll love Aberfeldy, an Edinburgh quintet who employ similarly cute boy/girl harmonies, with the twist that instead of guitars, most of these dozen ditties are led by the infectious organ figures of Ruth Barrie and Sarah McFadyen. The singer-songwriter Riley Briggs and his drummer brother Murray used to be in a Devo tribute band, and the influence lingers in the simple melodies and irresistible hooks of songs such as "Hypnotised" and "If - Then", as well as the cheesy Eighties tones of "Uptight". Besides these romance-related songs, Briggs deals with a range of other issues - disillusion ("Let Down"); talent and ambition pursued ("Never Give Up") and wasted ("Poetry"); a self-directed dig at anachronistic preferences ("The 1970s"); and the need to uphold one's individuality ("Whatever Turns You On"). Beneath the sugar-sweet tunes and harmonies, however, lurks a sardonic streak that stops the songs from curdling, as Briggs takes digs at trendies and the undeservingly successful. "We could take this town tonight," he sings at one point, "but I doubt it would be worth the fight." The Scotsman said - "FOLLOWING the folksy charms of their debut album, Young Forever, which was recorded with all band members huddled shivering round one microphone, wearing fingerless gloves and eating stale bread and mouldy cheese (sort of), Edinburgh quintet Aberfeldy return with a bigger budget and a bigger sound, excellently served by the skills of Blue Nile producer Callum Malcolm. Do Whatever Turns You On is a wonderful pop album replete with cheesy keyboards, sunshine harmonies and self-doubt - but mainly with glorious tunes such as the KC & the Sunshine Band-meets-Phoenix sounds of the bittersweet Uptight and the sublime synth-pop melancholia of Never Give Up (imagine Ben Folds playing a Casio keyboard rather than battering a baby grand)....In his musical career, frontman Riley Briggs has done prog, garage and folk - now he has found his niche, rivalling Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch as Scotland's most inspired pop songwriter." The Irish Independent said- "EDINBURGH FIVE-piece Aberfeldy released one of 2004's little known masterpieces - Young Forever - and they've followed it up with another dose of infectious pop. Their bittersweet, resolutely upbeat songs boast erudite lyrics wrapped around the loveliest of melodies....There are touches of Belle & Sebastian here and when frontman Riley Briggs and bandmates Ruth Barrie and Sarah McFadyen are in full voice, Abba's distinct male-female harmonising is recalled."There are 2 Aberfeldy myspace sites. I can't remember how to log into the other one, so it's a graveyard, but there are some other tunes and photos.
