Vela Uniform was Brian Merry and myself, Brenda Merry. Brian and I started playing together in 1997 when a mutual friend introduced us. I was looking for a guitar player for an acoustic project and when I heard Brian play, I knew he was the one I wanted to work with. No one I attempted to write with played such beautiful melodies that immediately provoked melodies from me. I enjoyed writing music with him for about 10 years.
In the summer of 2004 both Brian and I became members of the band Murder Happens. Murder Happens played the Vela Uniform songs Coldlike, Vice Grip, Teardrop Garden and our version of Fascination Street live. This is why you will see shows listed as Murder Happens, featuring Vela Uniform. This also explains why the Vela Uniform song Vice Grip appears on the Murder Happens myspace profile. Vice Grip was rerecorded with Paul Wood of Murder Happens in late 2007. As far as I know, Teardrop Garden and Vice Grip will be appearing on an upcoming Murder Happens CD; creative differences led to my departure from Murder Happens in April of 2007.
Brian is no longer a member of Vela Uniform. I will be working with a new guitar player and various musicians when I have the chance to record again. I am still writing and will try to add something new when I have the time and resources.
