Band Members: The band:
Vocals and acoustic guitar: Jonathan Kydd.
All Jonny Kydds songs are written by Jonathan. And he sings em too. Has been gigging with Mal Darwen on acoustic and singer Cathy Cogle.
Kate Hetherington has been playing with him on cello as well as the virtuoso Anna Phoebe on violin.
Mal Darwen:
He sings and write songs for his own band, but twists his talent with jonny kydd by playing sinuous uncluttered bass and great inventive acoustic.
A big talent. Has played with various members of 'Faithless' and the 'Cocteau Twins'.
Cathy Cogle:
Sings with the Singing Dentists with Jonathan and has appeared at the National Theatre and all over the world. Great singer live. Great personality.
Jonathan was honoured to have the following play on the album: the superb Anna Phoebe on violin, who plays with TSO in the States, Iain Anderson of Jethro Tull and OI Va Voi, his mate Martin Winning from Van Morrison's band on flute and saxes and brilliant Harmonica player Nik Payn from Bill Wyman's band. Hammond and piano were played by the superb Simon Chamberlain who has played with Paul McCartney and Bjork amongst others. Some drums were Iain Thomas (in Hamish Stuart's band- from Average White Band) and Steve Pearce was on some bass (recently touring with George Fenton of 'Planet Earth' fame) .
Influences: Paddy MacAloon, Eddi Reader, Blue Nile, kd lang, Kate Bush, Hall and Oates, Dave Matthews, John Martyn, Shawn Colvin, Joan Osborne, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Luther Vandross, Aimee Mann, Donald Fagan, Kelly Joe Phelps, Graham Nash, Neil Young, Tears for Fears, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Peter Gabriel, David Crosby, Joni Mitchell, Prefab Sprout, The Beatles, Mrs Kydd, Frank Sinatra, The Turtles, The Kinks, Suzanne Vega, Bjork, Prince, the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Sheryl Crow, the O'Jays, XTC, Stephen Bishop....er that's enough....
Sounds Like: Dave Matthews Band?
Shawn Colvin (ish)?
James Blunt, the most hated man in pop?
Danny Wilson?
Actually you decide. I dunno. I'd like to say it sounds like no one else but that's unlikely. Someone said it sounded like some bloke from the 70s called Clifford T Ward who had a hit with a song called 'Gaye' but having listened to him it slightly depressed me. Someone else said Al Stewart. That depressed me too.
Any suggestions?
Oh yeah. there's a bit of Bill Withers. And er....Ray Davies? Ian Dury? Tom Robinson? George Formby? Lloyd George? Help!
