THE DISTORTION PROJECT. Metal Gig Promoters.

About Me

The Distortion Project is a Belfast, Northern Ireland based Heavy Metal gig promotionsagency and record label. Formed in 2000 with a view to hosting fortnightly metal nights inone of Belfast's newest night spots (Auntie Annies, on the Dublin Road, Belfast), we quicklyestablished ourselves as gig promoters when we were asked to take over the running of"rocKD" (a shortening of "rock at Katy Dalys." Katy Dalys is a pub/gig venue situated inthe centre of Belfast).
ABOUT rocKD rocKD was borne out of a need to provide a place that local rock and metal bands could plytheir wares to an appreciative and attentive audience. This is a weekly event that showcasesat least two bands as well as the best mix of metal tunes played by our experienced metalDJ's. We run these gigs every Saturday afternoon at Katy's. Doors open at 3.30pm, withthe first band on around 5.30pm. Music gets played til 8pm Entrance fee for the majority ofgigs is £2.50, unless otherwise stated. Keep an eye on our web site for furtherinformation.
As well as running the rocKD series of gigs, we also promote gigs for touring bands too. Some of the bigger names we have brought to Belfast in the past include ENTOMBED, ORANGEGOBLIN, CLUTCH, CATHEDRAL, THE ALMIGHTY, AKERCOCKE, DECAPITATED, FIREBIRD, DESECRATIONand a host of others. We also offer a tour booking service for bands wishing to come toNorthern and Southern Ireland, as we have a wide range of contacts in this country. Drop usan e-mail for more details on any of the above.
DISTORTION PROJECT RECORDS
We started the label in January 2004, but the idea and concept of Distortion Project Recordsgoes as far back as 2001,when we financed and released the second ep by the now defunctNorthern Ireland based metal-core noiseniks Spindrift. This release was met with somecritical acclaim and saw the band broaden their horizons, despite the loss of theirguitarist later that year. Fast forward to the end of 2002 with a release of a compilationcd entitled "Staring Back at the Present." This was limited to 100 copies and was handedout at a show we hosted in the Limelight on December 28th 2002. This gig was a greatsuccess and earned a rave review in Terrorizer magazine in January 2003.
Currently we have two bands signed to the label. A Northern Ireland based quartet calledSTAND-UP GUY (http://www.stand-upguy.com) who released their debut CD in November2004. Entitled "IN FIXATION, CONSPIRE," the album contains contains 9 songs ofemotional, honest music tinged with a brooding intensity not matched by any other band inthis genre. This CD has 50 minutes of swirling, jarring riffage, off-kilter rhythms andinspiring vocals. It’s an album that ebbs and flows from start to finish and highlights arange of feelings, from anger to sadness and from bitterness to despair. Its a journey ofthe soul, which the listener is drawn into as the album progresses with each track.
The other act on our roster are extreme pummelling doomsters BLACK SUN(http://www.ripyourselfopen.com) who hail from Glasgow. Signed in Sept 2005, BLACK SUN'S soon-to-be-released debut CD called "SACRED ETERNAL ECLIPSE" has 8 tracksand 56 minutes of the blackest, filth-encrusted doom this side of the river Styx. Trackslike “Vena Cava” and “Airstrike” slowly grind along in a deeply satisfying fashion, whereas“Red Rain” pummels the listener into submission with its relentlessly churning riff andviolently anguished vocals. This is an album that bristles with malicious intent from startto finish. "SACRED ETERNAL ECLIPSE"is tortured, doom-laden metal at its finest.
Our releases are available throughout the UK in most major record stores, and online retailoutlets. Alternatively, you can get them directly from us via our web site.
We welcome submissions and contact from metal, or metal-influenced bands who are looking forgigs in Northern or Southern Ireland, and those bands who have interest in the label. Please contact us using the e-mail address below. Also, please check out our web sites, again, listed below.
