STAND-UP GUY STAND-UP GUY STAND-UP GUY

Bursting slab of tonal affront, back and forth in a time turned wild. Avalanche riff break to freezer-burn melody, tearing time-fabric beat................ STAND-UP GUY, four-piece metal band from Belfast Northern Ireland.

The Stand-Up Guy plays music to consolidate the aching in his heart. He wants to nail it. Then fucking bury it. It's metal. Raw, shimmering, shivering wound, bloody spittle spoken.

Stand-Up Guy in 2007 issued their second album, AVENUE UNAWARES. Nine observations on the nature of hurt. Sixty-four minutes of stark, engaging rock.

Stand-Up Guy came to be in the year 2000. Guitarists Ian and Paul, Lisburn residents who had played under the banner Sift, coalesced into Shakedown, a noisy groove troupe making their bones in a rat-infested barn in Ballyclare. Forced to break as members were unable to commit, Paul, Ian and bassist Philip felt they had a friendship and writing bond they wanted to explore, and so began Stand-Up Guy. Two drummers later, Conor Mullan of Londonderry took to the throne and line-up stability ensued. Conor also lays down the shifting currents of Countervela.Stand-Up Guy bear comparison to: Deftones, Zao, Neurosis, Crowbar.

'Avenue Unawares': "this album has been a slowly cauterising burn; the feeling of being privy to some uncomfortable goings on is palpable; like some nightshift of an album, it works its own necessary business while the rest of the world sleeps comfortably; Katatonia now a surprising tonal comparison" - 4.1 / 5 - Ciaran Tracey, www.metalireland.com
