Farewell was formed in 1997 at the city of Iisalmi, Finland, by guitarists Matero & Lappalainen. Soon drummer Otto Aminoff and bass player J-P Lappalainen (esmi's brother) joined the new band. Line up was completed by vocalist Juha Härkin. First years were spent as a covers-band.
In 1999 Farewell beginned to write music of their own. At the same time vocalist Härkin was replaced with Markus Makkonen. This new line-up wrote shortly four new songs and demoed them in year 2000. Tape was called “Community Of The Wickedâ€.
After several live shows and four new songs written, Farewell decided to record their first full-length cd. It was finally released in august 2002 with a title “Cold Autumn Rideâ€. Unfortunately drummer Aminoff went separate ways with the group right after album was released.
Former bandmate of Markus, Toni Balk, was phoned in to help with upcoming live shows. It did not take a genious to realise that Toni has been the missing link of Farewell’s sound. He got the permanent post behind f-well’s drumkit in 2003.
Year 2004 was full of experiences for Farewell. They released two promotional singles, called “On One Card†and “Down With The Damned†(both recorded with british producer Richard Stockdale) and toured first time abroad. A three date tour in Ireland was done with Irish heavyweight-trashers Madra.
In early 2005 Farewell toured with Madra again. This time in Finland. In three dates bands played to nearly a thousand finns and destroyed almost as many bottles of beer. After these tours Farewell’s sound had developed a great deal towards new heavier territories. Rest of the year was spent playing only handful of gigs and writing new music.
Year 2006 was spent almost completely in studio. Toni and Markus took on the production, mixing, engineering and mastering duties. After ten months F-wellProject 2006 was completed and new Farewell cd was released in December. Album was titled “Do You Think You Know Meâ€.
In 2007 Farewell celebrated their tenth year in action, with a 10-year aniversary show. It was a special and memorable event for all attendants, not least to F-wellers theirselves. A serie of other shows was played also.
Farewell started 2008 with pre-production of new single. Three songs were written and rehearsed for a release later this spring. It will be followed by a promotional tour. Also some special stuff is planned. But all in all, Farewell's year 11 is going to be a active and metallic one! Thanks for checking us out! You rule!!
