Mael Mórdha - Gaelic Doom Metal

About Me

Mael Mórdha was formed in January 1998 and has undergone an arduous journey from obscurity, to the forefront of the Irish Metal scene since then. Playing a truly unique blend of doom metal and traditional Irish laments, the band has successfully fused their influences to create what has become known as ‘Gaelic Doom Metal’.

Success for the band came very slowly, in part due to the many personnel changes that plagued the band, particularly in its earlier years. However, as the line-up settled, the welfare of the band also improved. As a result, a wealth of material was written and recorded, many concerts were played the length and breadth of Ireland, and finally, the band was offered a four album deal by up-and-coming German Label, Grau in 2005.

The band, other than its normal routine of playing concerts in Ireland, has begun to venture further afield, with festival appearances at Bloodstock in England (2006), Heathen Crusade II in the United States (2007), Doom Shall Rise in Germany (2007) and Dutch Doom Days in The Netherlands (2007).
Recordings.

Mael Mórdha I - The Path to Insanity (Mcd - Deasmumhan 1999) Mael Mórdha II - The Inferno Spreads (Unreleased 2000) Mael Mórdha III - Caoineadh na nGael (Mcd - Deasmumhan 2002) Mael Mórdha IV - Cluain Tarbh (Unreleased 2003) Cluain Tarbh - Split with Primordial (7" Vinyl- Sentinel Records 2005) Cluain Tarbh (CD - Karmageddon Media 2005) Gealtacht Mael Mórdha (CD - Grau Records 2007)

Grau Records are planning on Re-releasing Cluain Tarbh (with two extra tracks) to enable people to buy the album (seeing as Karmageddon Media were not capable of doing this). Mael Mórdha is currently writing music for their, as yet, untitled third album which they hope to record in late 2008.
