Officium Triste was formed in 1994 out of the ashes of death metal band Reïncremated. The members of Reïncremated changed their style to a more melodic and heavy approach, influenced by acts such as Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema. After a couple of months their first effort, simply called "Demo 1994", saw the light of day. A self-financed 7" EP was recorded in 1995 and released in 1996, called "Mountains of Depressiveness". These 2 releases led to a deal with Dutch label Teutonic Existence Records. The first full-length was recorded in 1996/ 1997 and was released in 1997. This debut album, "Ne Vivam", gained very good critics worldwide and the band also started playing live more often, with supporting Anathema as a highlight. In 1998 the band released a self-financed split MCD with traditional doomsters Cold Mourning from California, USA. After this release the band decided to split up.
However, after 7 months they came to realise this wasn't a good decision after all. The band got back together and started writing new stuff. A promo was recorded which got them a deal with Dutch label Displeased Records. Their sophomore album "The Pathway" was released in 2001 and again a lot of highly acclaimed gigs followed. For instance the support of Candlemass and 2003's first edition of the Doom Shall Rise festival in Germany. In 2004 the third full-length "Reason" saw the light of day. This album got excellent reviews worldwide. The same year Badger Records released the debut "Ne Vivam" on vinyl and in 2005 Russia's Serpent's Lair released "Ne Vivam" on CD after years of unavailability. Three years after the release of "Reason" the 4th full-length "Giving Yourself Away" saw the light of day. Once again released via Displeased Records. This album also became the last album featuring Johan on guitars as he decided to call it quits and move on to other things. Fortunately a replacement was found pretty fast in Bram Bijlhout, who used to play guitar and growl in the band Imbolc, amongst others. So O.T. remains a steady unit and will return to the stages in its new form in September supporting Candlemass on some shows.Furthermore a version of Thergothon's Crying Blood and Crimson Snow will be recorded for a tribute album due out in early 2008 through Russia's Solitude Productions. For more info we advise you to visit our website at www.officiumtriste.com
