Formed in 1996 under the moniker of Zarathustra by founding members Eddie and Jon, the band began writing atmospheric death metal, with strong doom and black metal overtones.Unfortunately, the band suffered with a consistently unstable line-up until the summer of 1999, when they were joined by Paul on guitar. Shortly after, the band recorded their first release ..A Monument to Suffering', featuring the original drummer Wayne.

The band played many gigs in this period alongside such bands as Akercocke, Evoke, Crawlspace, 7th Child, Throne of Nails and Desecration. The band appeared at ..The Extinction Agenda' in May 2000, Shortly after Wayne announced his departure. In 2000 we changed our name from Detrimentum and we were joined on drums by Jon "Rushy" Rushfourth of "Gorerotted" and previously "Brutal Insanity".

The band has gone from strength to strength in the last 7 years, having rearranged and re-recorded our previous release "A Monument to the Suffering" and honing a more unique style of dark, brutal and atmospheric Death Metal that still retains some of the original and acclaimed style showcased in our earlier material, but with increased tightness, fluidity and technicality.
Recently the band have enjoyed an extensive stint of gigging, that saw us play with the likes of Kataklysm, Vader, Lost Soul, Blood Duster and many other profile bands. We are now eagerly awaiting the release of our debut album, and have already begun writing new tracks for another release.
In December 2006, Eddie decided to leave Detrimentum for personal reasons. The remaining members of the band wish him all the very best as a friend and founding member of Detrimentum. We have also welcomed into our ranks 2 new members - Phil on bass guitar and Luke on vocals.
