A bit of Big Noise history
Big Noise was opened as RAM studios in St James, Northampton back in 1993, a few years after the Gordelier family moved to Northampton from London. Pete was always well into his music, playing bass in the band AngelWitch, and he decided that he wanted to do something with music, helping the local band scene.
RAMs first customers were the mighty Motorpriest, now DD Cup, Juvenile 2000, Fear And Loathing (with Red Banana) and Jnr Loaded, who Ben joined in 1996. The whole family chipped in, even Spike who was only 6 years old at the time. RAM already had 2 rehearsal rooms built in, but we were so busy Pete built a third room with his bare hands, and a few planks of wood and some nails, while Kim took care of the bookings and cooking sausage sandwiches, or sometimes the G-Funk Burger (made by Giles, Sex By Sound).
Eventually though, the noise got too much for the nearby houses, so RAM moved to bigger and better places in Gregory Street and the name was born over a meal out, beating names 'Pete's' and 'Aldidudi'.
A few weeks before it closed, we gave a set of keys to our good Freebase friends for them to collect some kit for a gig. But there was a problem! A water pipe in the ceiling had burst, and water was everywhere, our drums were floating around the rehearsal rooms. Freebase phoned us and we went straight down there to save our stuff! We took a manhole cover off a drain outside the studio, and Kim kept on at Ben and Spike to be careful and not fall in. It was Freebase Nick who did. He managed to hold himself up by sticking his elbows out and he cut his chin.
Big Noise used to be a gym; Pete once again built 4 rehearsal rooms from scratch. We now also have a recording studio which is run by Ben. A guard dog, Billy, has also been added to the family, but theres no real need to be afraid of him.
