Jager Uprising Review (Spectrum, Sydney) – featured in Brag
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20. BY DREW CLARKE.
In the spotlight sits eighteen year old Deanna Wesson - a petite girl in a black babydoll dress, all alone with her Yamaha keyboard. For the first time I can recall, the stage at Spectrum actually looks big. She delivers her raw and emotional lyrics with a soft touch, singing about typical teen issues (relationships, crushes, broken hearts, loneliness, etc), but with a maturity and vocal range beyond her years. Her powerful voice is smooth, soulful & passionate and at times indecently sexy as she purrs about her perfect man. We are treated to a minimalistic song played on rhythm sticks – a piece she wrote on the train up from Melbourne – which silences the room as it fills with beautiful music. Amazing.
