Hello and welcome to the Raymond Porter "My Space" page. I'm a singer/songwriter from aberdeen in the north east of Scotland and I have put some of my music on here to share it with anyone who cares to listen..The songs are all recorded at home and written in the last two years..I record with some pretty basic equipment but I think they are good enough quality to listen too..Music is just a hobby to me but i do take it serious and I enjoy it very much.. I enjoy the writing most of all and the singing but i only play basic guitar and piano so it's good to work with other musicians too. As well as on here my music is on a site called iacmusic.com where i was fortunate enough to win an award for best easy listening song of 2006. I also had one of my songs called "warchild" on a charity CD for the charity "warchild" which helps children of all cultures who have been affected by war..The CD was compiled by myself and other artists at iacmusic.com. I don't play live as I don't have a band and I ain't got the neve to stand up on my own but I have collaborated with many fine artists by means of the internet and that has been great fun and it has produced some good results.. I hope one day to write a really good song and to get into a studio nd record it properly with real musicians but in the meantime I do the best that I can with what I have. I'm happy to say that there are a few people who like my music and I would like to thank everyone who has left me such lovely comments. I feel that if i have made a few people happy with my music then that is enough for me and am very happy that I seem to have done that. as for me well I belive in God but I don't belong to any church..I simply believe in the concept of love and peace and some of my songs are about this......I believe that there is only one God and it would be nice if everyone who believed in God got on regardless of their different religious beliefs..If there is only one God as i believe then we should ll get on and be on the same side.. I think war is such a sad thing and an outdated thing and I feel sorry for all the innocent people that suffer because of it. We can't keep living in hate and filling our heads with revenge...This planet is finished unless we have the courage to look to our problems straight in the face and get rid of these feelings of greed and hate and power. ...We cannot divorce ourselves from the rest of the world..There is only one race of people and that is the human race and I feel we have to only look at what brings us together and not to what drives us apart. It's much easier said than done I know but if everyone does their bit than things can be a bit better in this world. I think love is infectious just as hate is and if the majority of us can find love in our hearts and the power to accept and forgive then perhaps we have a chance to save ourselves. what choice have we got.. Hidden behind smoky dark clouds, the moon appears to be drifting slowly through the fall night sky. It's an illusion. The sound of raindrops drip-drop-dripping off the edge of the porch roof hitting the wooden floor just a couple of feet in front of me is accenting the song coming from the speakers hanging on the wall behind me. It's your song Ray, "I'm Leaving You Girl For Sure". What a great tune! Sitting here listening to this slinky sexy provocative melody and your velvety smooth voice Ray, the picture in my mind is a somewhat life-worn, love-torn guy standing elbows planted on the bar, eyes glazed and alternating between measuring his half glass of Jack Daniels and glancing out the neon-lit rain streaked window of some all night bar. It's three in the morning. The streets are wet and deserted. The girl standing next to a dimly lit lamp-post, cigarette between her fingers, is wearing a dark-colored polyester raincoat with the collar turned up and wide open at the front showing more T & A and leg than Mae West on a manhunt. She's obviously in business for herself, and there's not much of that tonight. But back to your song Ray - these are amazing lyrics - and this 1940's bluesy seedy all night bar beat fits the mood and your Chicago sounding vocals to a "T". Yeah, I know, that's a strange word to describe your vocals Ray, but that's the picture I have in my mind at the moment. The guy has obviously decided its over - he's leaving his girl tonight. The empty glass of Jack Daniels sitting on the bar now and the girl outside who has just climbed into the front seat of a car that stopped for a moment, likely helped him make up his mind. This song tells a story familiar I'm sure to many hearts and ears. I am truly honored Ray to finally have you here
