A Hippy Wrapped in Rock 'n Roll

About Me

|| NEWS || Oct 8, o7 ||
I know it's been awhile since I've put anything new on the player but at last there's a NEW SONG! I think once you have a listen it pretty much explains itself. I needed a pick me up and this is what I came up with. I hope you enjoy my newest creation I Love Pete!

Not only is there one new original song on my player but two! You will see new additions Alberta My Home and Before I Die. Both are very, very different from each other but they both speak volumes about me. Please have a listen and feel free to let me know what you think!

Last weekend my friend and I decided to have a photo shoot since it wasn't raining. Every time we've tried to take a few pictures it seemed like we were always getting rained out. You can find the new pictures in the album my guitars & i. I hope you enjoy them as much as my friend and I had taking them. They turned out great!

I received another wonderful present in my email today from Mr. Raymond Porter. He's added his talented flavour to another beatles cover I did awhile back, HELP!. Please feel free to have a listen and enjoy it as much as I do. I'm going to have to try and convince Ray to move to Canada and join my band pretty soon.
Thank you once again Ray for all your wonderful help, support and Lennon fun!

NEW WEBSITE ALERT!
I have started another myspace page called "Join Together". Everyone has causes they fight for and this would be one of mine. Women don't have too many role models in this world (would you want your daughter looking up to Paris Hilton? Or Britney Spears? I sure wouldn't) and the'yre constantly under pressure to fit a mold that isn't theirs. Young women are bombarded with pictures and articles in magazines that being thin is more important than being smart. Women are put down for having love handles. They're looked down on for having an intellegent mind. I've started a site to try and change minds and break boundries. There is no such thing as perfection and the sooner women start embracing their flaws instead of hiding them... the better off we'll all be.
You can find "Join Together" on my Top Friends list and I would really appreciate people stopping by and sharing. Soon I will be looking for pictures, stories and articles from real women and the men that love them. I'm hoping to even have some pictures of my own up by the end of the month.
Real women are beautiful and it's time we realized that.

Before I Die || Shelley Harder I don't really know what to say about this one... other than have a listen... and you will understand. And I do hope from the bottom of my heart you like.
I Love Pete || Shelley Harder My newest work and I really hope you enjoy it. I wanted to write something light and fun and I hope that Rachael realizes that I'd never try and steal her boyfriend away... or would I? No seriously... I wouldn't. Okay maybe I would.
Alberta My Home || Shelley Harder A friend of mine asked me about 4 months ago if I would be interested in writing a song for their internet fishing show. I figured it wouldn't be all that hard to come up with something... 4 months LATER I finally scrapped everything I did and started all over again. What came of it is Alberta My Home. It's simple, it's meaningful and it works for my friend's show which is the most important. For those of you that will be coming to my stage DEBUT on Aug 24th you will be hearing this very song in it's entirety (there are a few more verses that need to be written). I hope you like my newest attempt! Enjoy!
I'm Just One || Shelley Harder The first song I ever wrote and put to music. It'll be the one I'm always most proud of I think.
|| THE BAND ||
Right now there isn't much of a band. Just me, myself and my guitar. Oh... and anyone else around me who's willing to pick up an instrument and join.
Music has always been a part of my life in one form or another. It's such a big part of my life that not only do I play music for fun but I also have a career as a radio announcer. Some people have TV and movies... I have music.
I've just created a CD for everyone close to me this Christmas called A Hippy Wrapped in Rock 'n Roll'. It's a cover CD full of bands and music whom I adore and respect. I wanted to do something special for people this holiday season and what better way than by sitting in the studio at my radio station for a few days and doing what I love to do... make music. There isn't anything special about the tracks, it's just music in it's raw form but I think that's what I like the most. Somewhere along the way music has started being more about image than sound. Which I think is wrong. Music is to be listened to and what does it matter what a person looks like to create it? The sound is bare bones, raw and real. There is no fancy studio, no wardrobe, no music videos. Just a girl with her guitar named Cash.
The songs on this page are from A Hippy Wrapped in Rock 'n Roll and I hope you enjoy them. Just a note... the CD is not for sale. It's just a gift... of music.

Band Members: Shelley Harder - guitar || vocals || keyboard

Kurtis Harder - guitar || vocals || drums
I've been teaching my brother to play for about a year now. Not only is he great moral support but he's also more than willing to play until his fingers bleed. Kurt is the better picker of the two of us and maybe one day my dear younger brother will end up being my lead guitarist. Hey, stranger things have happened. He's also recently bought himself a drum kit and i firmly believe he could be one of the best due to the fact that he's kind of a spaz. in a good way though!
Influences: The Who, The Rolling Stones, Spirit, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, The Doors, CCR, Bob Seger, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds, B.T.O, Loverboy, Trooper, Streetheart, David Bowie...

Honestly there's too many bands out there to name them all. I was raised on Classic Rock and it's still the main genre of music I listen to today. There are so many stories, so many interesting tid bits about music of the Classic Rock time. When Rock 'n Roll was a new thing... people were exploring and pushing boundries. It was such an exciting time.

My only regret is that I wasn't around during such times. To have been a part of Woodstock, to have seen The Who perform on Rolling Stones Circus, The Isle of Wight concert... all these things I wish I could have been a part of. But all I have is the music and if that's all I get out of the deal... I consider myself very lucky indeed.

I have many musical heros like John Lennon, Keith Moon, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, and all the other musicians that not only changed music but changed the world, touched our lives and left before their time.

but most importantly, my parents are my biggest heroes.

The Who || Sparks (Woodstock 1969)
This clip will never leave my site because I never grow tired of watching the boys give it their all.

The Kinks || Sunny Afternoon
One of my favorite songs from this band and since it's summer here in Canada it seems fitting.

Kris Kristofferson || Live in Austin
Kris is really one of the major reasons why I picked up a guitar in the first place. He's a master storyteller and each and every one of his songs touch me in a place that a lot of other music doesn't even come close to. He's got such a way with words that I'm surprised it took me this long to find a clip of him. I saw him live last summer at the Calgary Folk Fest. It was just him, his guitar and about 10 thousand friends. Kris' pressence, his spirit is something you will never forget. And his music will live forever.

Pete Townshend || Let My Love Open The Door
You can't get away from the guy on this site so don't even try. This song makes me smile... well okay Pete makes me smile and I hope he makes you smile too!
