I am quite
aware of the inevitability of death. I accept it completely. More so than a
religious person. I am not going to pretend, though, that there is some kind of
"after-life". I do not fear death at all. If, when I do die, I find that somehow
everything we hold to be rational is wrong, and the Christian God is real, I
will gladly burn in Hell...because I refuse to serve such a monster.
But, if there were a God, I highly doubt he/she/it would be anything like
what any religion has explained him/her/it to be like. The problem with
organized religion is that it is mostly based on a few peoples interpretation of
God, and everybody else just follows along believing whatever they are told.
You are wrong that religion is needed within a nation. There are many great
nations that have a much larger Atheist population than America.
Also, the Atheist population in American prisons is 0.209%. That means that
99.79% of the people in prison are religious...most Christians. Also, the
percentage of divorces is much higher among Christians than that of Atheists.
And yes, religion can be anything...but most people are not rational enough
to think on their own. They want quick, easy answers to life. Well life is not
quick or easy. Death is nothing to "get ready" for. We should be worried about
life. Being happy, helping others, loving one another, etc. We need to stop
obsessing over what happens to us when we die....because to date, nobody has
proven anything other than that we rot in the ground....like every other animal
on this planet.
