About Me

CAROLE POPE

WITH SPECIAL GUEST ELVIRA KURT

TWO SHOWS ONLY! SATURDAY MARCH 22 & SUNDAY MARCH 23
BUDDIES IN BAD TIMES THEATRE, TORONTO

WHAT DO THESE WORDS HAVE IN COMMON: JUNO, GENIE, GOLD, PLATINUM, DOUBLE PLATINUM, ROCK AND ROLL, AUTHOR, SEXY, DIVA, AND ROUGH TRADE? THESE WORDS CAN ONLY BE USED TO DESCRIBE CANADA’S ORIGINAL ANTI-DIVA: CAROLE POPE.

Three-time Juno Award-winner, Genie Award-winner, best-selling author and real-life Canadian idol Carole Pope rocks the Buddies mainstage for two nights only! Pope is joined with Comedy Network’s Popcultured series star and Canadian comedy legend, Elvira Kurt, for an evening of comedy and sexy rock ‘n’ roll.

From the Rough Trade heyday to Pope’s most recent solo album, Transcend, she has swaggered and crooned her way into the hearts of people around the globe over her remarkable career. Rough Trade was recently inducted into the Indy Hall of Fame last year during Canadian Music Week and Carole Pope’s best-selling autobiography entitled Anti Diva (Random House) has just been optioned for film and Pope has been invited to perform at for Iceland Pride in August.

“Transcend, Pope's latest weapon, is explosive electronica that swaggers with rhythmic confidence while Pope's husky vocals both dare and deliver with the swelling abandon for which she's known..”
- Xtra Magazine

“Why has this legend still not been named to the Order of Canada"
- Daniel Paquette, Fab Magazine

APOPHENIA Created by Montreal’s 2boys.tv (Stephen Lawson and Aaron Pollard)
Feb 8 & 9, 8pm
Admission $10
Darlings of the Montréal cult cabaret scene, 2boys.tv, craft collaborative transmedia performance works which often incorporate video projections, soundscapes, found and original music scores, transgendered apparitions, outrageous (sometimes sculptural) costume, props, vocal/textual works, and the art of lip-synch. For Audience Relocation, Gigi L’Amour and Pipi Douleur (concurrently known as artists Stephen Lawson and Aaron Pollard) reach deep into the folds of their closet to extract and elaborate upon works they have been developing around the themes of panic, trepidation, and accusation, demanding the question “Can you become that which you fear the most?”
