About Me

DR. RAGE & THE UPPERCUTS
Dr. Rage & The Uppercuts are a hard hitting, riff based Rock/Funk/Blues band based out of Winnipeg, MB, Canada. Combining raw energy and attack, with a soulful, bluesy delivery, their feel pays homage to the spirit of the late 60s and early 70s, blended with an in-your-face, high intensity sound.
This four piece group is comprised of three veterans of the Canadian music scene and a young rhythm guitar player whom they've been grooming for the stage. The band was formed after an impromptu studio jam proved too tantalizing to ignore. From that point the band set to writing, quickly amassing a repertoire of over 30 original songs in less than a year. Dr. Rage & The Uppercuts receive a very enthusiastic response everywhere they play. One rabid fan even purchased five autographed CDs for his entire family.
Just into their second year as a band, they have built quite a resume of high profile gigs. Some of the bands highlights include:
- Opening for Bo Diddley July 12th, 2005 Coyotes Winnipeg, MB.
- Opening the main stage at Manitoba SummerFest 2005 July 29th, 2005 at The Grand Beach Entertainment Center Winnipeg, MB. The band shared the same stage with the likes of: Cheap Trick, Twisted Sister, Roger Hodgson, Warrant, Harlequin, The Romantics, Kansas, The Zombies, Gregg Rolie, Helix and many others.
-Dr. Rage & The Uppercuts toured western Canada in October 2005 which included dates in BC, Alberta and Manitoba.
-Performed at The Hamlet July 15th, 2006 opening for The Perpetrators
-Performed at the Great Woods Music Festival August 13th, 2006 Great Woods Park Beasejour, MB. The band shared the stage with such names as: Donné Roberts, Tom Principato, Mississippi Heat, and Eddie Turner.
-Dr. Rage & The Uppercuts and their song "Hey Lil' Sister" were featured in the Myspace Hordes section of Guitar Player Magazine (January 2007 Issue) as one of the winners of the Ernie Ball Myspace Hordes contest.
-Opening the main stage at Rockin' The Fields of Minnedosa August 4th, 2007. The band shared the same stage with: Harlequin, Kenny Shields, Pat Travers, Rick Emmett, The Stampeders, and Nazareth.

PRESS QUOTES ON DR. RAGE & THE UPPERCUTS
[about "Hey, Lil' Sister"]....the Doctor unleashes one hell of a tortured, bluesy, yowl, and he plays a mean-ass guitar. This tune also turns Led Zeppelin sideways with a dash of Black Crowes, and thats pretty damn close to bliss.
- Michael Molenda, Guitar Player Magazine - January 2007
VERY TASTY!- Bo Diddley
I need a vocalist that sounds like 4 o'clock in the morning after a shot or 2 of bourbon, and [on this album] I can feel that pain.
- Howard Manshein, 92CITI FM/UMFM
Populated with tremendous riff artistry and crafty percussion, this is a rhythm-and-blues masterpiece with rock-n-roll lurking at every corner.
- J-Sin, Smother Magazine
Muscular beats that smack you upside the head, guitar's as edgy and menacing as a broken bottle and gruff vocals that sound like they've have been filtered through a lifetime of rotgut, regret and unfiltered Rothmans.
- Darryl Sterdan, The Winnipeg Sun
Fine effort by the competent band with a sound deeply rooted in the late sixties and early seventies when rocking was hard and blues was the icing on the cake.
- Vasja Ivanovski, 94.1 FM RADIO 2
If I ever get the muscle car of my dreams these guys will definitely be playing on the stereo as I cruise down to Memphis.
- Amie Lesyk, The Projector
Woven into their straight-up, hard-rock sound is enough 70's rock n roll fever to fill a bong.
- Jeff Monk, Winnipeg Free Press
Great Blues-Rock sounds that take you back to the 70's - freshly delivered by a great lineup. Great listening.
- Andrew Smith, 3NRG
Lock up the bottles, and hide your daughters! An excellent throwback to the sort of down and dirty blues-rock reminiscent of some of the best rock of the early to late 70's. The tracks on this release provide evidence of something that critics are always looking out for rock'n' roll as played by those whose sound comes from within (as opposed to trying to sound like someone else). The moment the disc started, I felt like I should be in a grimy bar somewhere, searching my pockets for enough change for one more bourbon.
- Greg McGuire, Globe & Mail - Acoustic Guitar Magazine
Their music is a mix of blues and rock that makes Nickelback sound like the Backstreet Boys.
- Adam A. Donaldson, LucidForge.com
Fantastic CD! I'm old enough to remember the first CDs of Led Zeppelin and Steppenwolf and I got the same kick out of listening to Hittin' Wood. Authentic, uncluttered, passionate rock......brilliant work!!
- Scott Johnston, KIX-FM
What a great sound from a band that cant be neatly fitted into any musical box! Trying to mix so many genres can often prove disastrous, but Dr. Rage and his cohorts pull it off.
- Tony Bates, Highlands 100.7FM
One of the best discs of the year for me.
- George Maida, 88.9FM WCVE
Really solid blues disc with a rock edge. Highly recommended!!
- Geoff Melton, The Music Korner
Excellent effort. The disc has been in high rotation on the show since I got this CD. Great sound and I love the gravelly vocals. Reminiscent of Government Mule and The Allman Bros.
- Mark Linkson, ValleyFM
A musical masterpiece.
- Parko Parkinson, QBN FM 96.7, Australia
