We were voted Best Dance Company in Boston by the Boston Phoenix!
Monkeyhouse is a non-profit arts organization in Metrowest Boston that expands the audience that appreciates and understands the art of choreography. Monkeyhouse features the work of Karen Krolak, Nicole Harris, Amelia O'Dowd, and Jason Ries.
Thanks to the help and support of all of our friends across the globe, Monkeyhouse has accomplished amazing things in our first five years. Since our beginning in 2000 we've...
* Shared the art of Choreography with hundreds of children in Massachusetts through programs in Dover, Natick, Cambridge, Marlboro, Boston, Newton, and Hudson.
* Presented work by emerging choreographers in New York, NY, Chicago, IL, Woodstock, VT, Minneapolis, MN, Philadelphia, PA, San Francisco, CA and Winnipeg, MB.
* Had a performance cited as an Exemplary Project by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
* Premiered 20 pieces and 3 evening length works.
* Been previewed in Dance Magazine, Philadelphia Magazine, Boston Magazine, SF Arts Monthly, and Time Out New York.
* Interacted with thousands of audience members, who are often new to the world of dance, through post-show discussions, receptions, feedback forms, emails, and Monkey Meals.
* Received rave reviews in the Village Voice, The Chicago Reader, Boston Herald, Boston Globe, Offoffoff.com, nytheater.com, and San Francisco Chronicle.
* Been listed as one of the Best Shows of the Year by the Boston Phoenix.
* And won the Best Costume Design Award at the New York International Fringe Festival.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for being such an integral part of the Best Dance Company in Boston 2006 according the Boston Phoenix Readers' Poll.
Isn't it incredible how much can change in a year?
Isn't it amazing the difference one person can make?
For instance, just about a year ago, Steve Wightman at College Planners LLC approached Monkeyhouse with an idea. He had been thrilled by our annual appeal letter but he wished that people could hear from us more regularly. "Why don't you start an online newsletter?" he suggested.
Steve is a Certified Financial Planner ® and author of www.BestCollegePlanner.com. Within a month of starting the newsletter, his fundraising expertise helped us harness the power of this email connection and catalyzed over $16,000 in donations. It is no coincidence that 2006 has been such an amazing year for this organization. You probably don't realize how much these ongoing updates inspire us. Your bold ideas and belief in us fuels our success.
