Journeys
Taxidia is a journey through ancient lands, a poetical and musical exploration across the Mediterranean Sea that initiates and concludes on the island of Cyprus (birthplace of the singer Kyriacoulla Constantinou). Cyprus is the expression of symbiosis of different cultures, languages, religions and mentality because of its history: since the ancient times the island has been occupied by the Phoenicians, Arabs, Byzantines, Franks, Venetians, English and at last Turkish. This variety created a kind of koinè that mix together a western style with eastern sounds, otherwise a kind of commixture.
In the ancient Greece the wine was not drank pure, it was a product of commixture (krama), so, our ensemble propose a repertory of commixtures, in other words, propose songs from Turkey to the Balkans, from Smyrna to Athens, from the Iberian Peninsula to Algeria, until Lebanon, arranged for a classical and traditional ensemble (classical and traditional instruments).
Before our return to Cyprus we visit some important centres of Italy like Genoa, Sicily and Naples. Our journey is divided in two moments: separation and return, emphasized by various instrumental intermezzos coming from the Cypriot, Balkan and Anatolian repertory.
