Dean Amos

Deano from Essex on double bass

About Me

I was born in Essex, and still live there. I have played double bass since 1979. It was Pat Reyford who taught me to play. We formed a band with drummer Tim Bignell, and Sunny 56 was born. It was made even better as we were all best mates, and still are. It's the things dreams are made of, and we lived the dream. We often referred to how it must of been like for Elvis Scotty and Bill, as we toured the country in our Ford Transit, going up the M1 on those cold rainy days. Oh well, 3 teenagers could dream, and Pat did and still has one of the best Presley voices anywhere. Over the years I have been in many 1950's rockabilly/rock and roll, western swing, rockin blues, even blue grass bands bands, and met some great people along the way. I gained some true great friends and met some famous ones as well. I think meeting Sonny West, Elvis's body guard and long time friend, was the best honour. He had come back stage to compliment Frank Ryan and The Hayriders!!! This gig we had done at Derby County football ground. We ended up talking about Elvis for ages.... a truly great night! I have played all over the UK and Europe. The main bands I have played for include Frank Ryan's Sunsetters and Hayriders, Johnny Gunner & The Raiders, Pat Reyford's Sunny 56, Lee Scott's Jive Mob, Scott Elvis, Lee Jackson, Pete Hutton & The Beyonders, and The Jaguars. I have also done dep work for countless bands over the years. I love the 50's scene in general, own a 1957 Chevy Bel Air Convertible and an 80's Chevy Truck . When I am not gigging myself, I still enjoy going out to watch other rockin bands. PETE HUTTON&THE BEYONDERS+THE ROOMATES-ELVIS NIGHT- BOSTON ARMS
