About Me

EX: IN A CIRCLE, GLOVEPUPPET, DEATH RAY CAFE, SMIRKY, LUXURY OCEAN LINER.
NOW: THE ALPHA STATE & SOLO PERFORMER
Hi my name is Stephen.
I play Guitar/Bass/Slide-Dobro/Lap-steel/Brass/ and Sing.
I've been playing music since I was a young boy and before that I was waiting and wanting to play.
I was captured by the recording bug at an early age when an uncle show me how his Teac A3340 4 track worked! I still have one! (and an 8 and a 16). Then came the early eighties Dunedin counter culture of youth + music & shortly there-after Flying Nun. I guess for a while I was in the right place at the right time. My studio is a shambles because I live in it. I have dozens of half-arsed unfinished demo's that I'll ruin if I try to finish them. Half-arsed is just fine by me. I'd hate to lose the vibe in pursuit of the perfect take. I'm an admin/manager type for a printing company by day (groan).. I design CD Covers & Posters etc for the joy of it, after hours, but don't tell the boss.. I'm always keen to organise gigs and tours, still do a little live sound (I hate going to gigs that sound crap and just want to jump in and fix the bloody EQ & balance sometimes). Recording, mixing and mastering are fairly consistent activities. I enjoy helping others to complete their projects for release. Must have helped with around 20 album releases now, I've lost count. Music is love and my ears are ringing. I've seen many, many wonderful shows. In fact, I do believe that music nourishes the soul. Look after your ears! I will be changing songs often.. New things, works in progress and a few from the vault of horrors, so check back if you want..
I have tons of old, quick & dirty recordings but I like my new stuff best..
A proper Bio will appear by osmosis...
Playing Slide Dobro with The Alpha State..
