About Me
Horse Opera. Real country music. The kind Waylon, Johnny, Merle, Billy Joe, Willie, and George would appreciate. Raw, emotion driven songs covering the gammet from Saturday nite in the honky tonk, to Sunday morn' at the altar. Songs for the workin' man, the drifter, the drinker, the sinner, the saved, the lonely, the lover, the fool and the wise man.
Rising from the ashes of failed attempts at a great country band, singer, guitar player and songwriter Jimmy Deveney gave it one last try, enlisting the help of Chris Wallis on the drums, Sly Barrack on lead guitar, and Vaughn Walters on bass. The quartet began playing shows in March of 2007, building a fan base and a reputation for getting down through their standing Sunday nite energy packed show at Ego's Lounge in Austin, Texas.Every Sunday, 'Atomic Honky Tonk' featured Horse Opera and other outstanding Austin country talent from 7:30pm to midnight. Horse Opera has a devoted and constantly growing family of friends and fans from 'Atomic Honky Tonk'. This was a great sucess until Ego's sadly turned into a karaoke bar on April 1st, 2008, no foolin'. Since then, the Atomic Honky tonk has taken up alternating sundays between Beerland, (the 1st and 3rd sundays), and Jovita's ( the 2nd and 4th sundays of each month, starting in MAY 2008).The band has also recently added the pedal steel talents of Burton Lee to the line up, now there are five. The five fellas in Horse Opera also gig constantly around Austin. Sharpening their skills in a variety of bands.Horse Opera are going into the studio to record in May of 2008 with plans afterward of touring in ever expanding circles around Texas and the US, spreading the good word that real country music is alive and well. It's underground like punk rock used to be, remember that? Real country is the alternative to alternative now, interesting. It's a subculture. Find it where you can, and you can find it at a Horse Opera show, that's fo sho.
In conclusion, these guys are great, and you should book 'em, feed 'em, let 'em sleep on your floor, tell 5 people about 'em, buy their merch, go see them perform, whatever your capacity to further the revolution is, do it. Nuff said.
