About Me

Slip inside the South Austin Museum of Popular Culture and you plunge mind first into a time-warped underland, where Austin's fabled counterculture and the artists who made it immortal are liver than they'll ever be. Our official mission is to collect, preserve, and exhibit art and memorabilia that reflect Austin's eclectic contributions to pop culture worldwide. Unofficially, we're about the stuff that makes Austin weird!
Located at 1516-B S. Lamar (north side of Planet K), the Museum first opened its doors in 2004 during SXSW as part of a citywide tribute to Austin poster art. Since then, our all-volunteer staff has produced over two dozen exhibits and special events featuring work by Kerry Awn , Ken Featherston , Jim Franklin , Danny Garrett , Henry Gonzalez , Jack "Jaxon" Jackson , Nels "Jagmo" Jacobson , Guy Juke , Bill Narum , Micael Priest , Gilbert Shelton , Sam Yeates , and others with much more to come.
With plenty of outrageous art, great munchies, and live tunes, our rockin' meet 'n' greets attract a diverse and fun-loving crowd, so watch this space for the next one, come on down, and if you like what you see, please join us - your support helps us keep on truckin'!
