Art Too Bad
to be ignored
Frequently Asked Questions:1 - "Is this some kind of joke?"
This institution works long and hard at building the finest bad art establishment in the world. We take our mission very seriously. Frankly, we are shocked and indignant at your derisive innuendo.2 - "Is there a 'real' Museum Of Bad Art?"
Yes, there is. There is a permanent gallery in Massachusetts, USA. You can get the address, directions, and maps on our website, MuseumOfBadArt.org. MOBA's permanent collection has over 300 pieces and is stored in a secure warehouse near Boston. About 25 works are exhibited at a time in our gallery in the basement of the Dedham Community Theater. Admission is always free.3 - "How can I help to support MOBA?"
• Sign up as a Friend Of MOBA and encourage all your friends to do the same.
• Make a donation to us using Amazon on our website. You can donate as little as $1 or as much as... well, as much as you want, really. Or, send donations to MOBA Headquarters, 73 Parker Road, Needham MA 02494.
• Consider donating a painting or sculpture.
• Give MOBA gifts to everyone you know. Our online store is at www.MassBayTrading.com/moba and we gleefully accept credit cards.
• Encourage your friends who run major corporations to sponsor a MOBA world tour.
• Volunteer to help with an event, photograph bad art, maintain a database, or whatever you're good at.
Donate your Bad Art to MOBA:Submission:
All submitted work must be original works of art (no reproductions). The pieces that we look for would never hang in a museum or commercial gallery, yet they have some quality that draws you to them -- or perhaps grabs you by the throat and won't let go.As a rule we do not accept:
• Works painted on velvet
• Anything created by a child
• Paint-by-number
• Any of the well known kitschy motifs (dogs playing cards, big eyed kids and all that) unless they break new ground in a startling way.An initial evaluation of the work can be done from a slide or photo but if you just want it out of your house than wrap it up and ship it to us.Evaluation:
All additions to the permanent collection are at the sole discretion of our esteemed curating staff. Curators are entrusted with the solemn responsibility of maintaining the museum's low standards. They typically reject 80% to 90% of all works submitted.
