About Me

The Center Against Domestic Violence is a New York City based non profit dedicated to ending domestic violence in all forms. More than 30 years ago our founders recognized that domestic abuse was not just a family matter, but also a crime and a violation of human rights. These urban pioneers worked tirelessly to open a shelter where battered women and their children could find safety - and the first publicly funded domestic violence shelter in New York State, Women’s Survival Space, opened that same year.
Today, the Center Against Domestic Violence operates three shelters, providing housing, support and a chance to build a life free of abuse for more than 1,000 women and children each year. We serve thousands more through programs that include a 24-hour hotline, accredited daycare and after school recreation, exceptional training programs, assistance with housing and employment, after-care and community-based counseling and case management.
In addition, we are proud of our role as the largest provider of date violence prevention services in New York City. We administer our groundbreaking Relationship Abuse Prevention Program, or RAPP, in schools throughout New York City’s five boroughs, placing experienced social workers in high schools and intermediate schools.
