Back in 2001, Kyt from Cornish band Anao Atao had the bright idea he wanted to share the band's experience and contacts to help other Cornish bands trying to get established. He spearheaded the creation of Kesson, a not-for-profit volunteer run collaborative of Cornish musicians whose purpose is to promote their efforts, and to distribute their CD's and downloads - passing on the bulk of the revenue to the musicians.Today Kesson embraces some 200 Cornish musicians, has over 80 albums on catalogue, and a fully searchable online database of over a thousand tracks - where fans can buy MP3's knowing that the musicians are getting a much bigger slice of the cake than they would from one of the big corporate download sites.Kesson isn't prescriptive about the style of music on catalogue - so long as it's Cornish. So covers of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Abba hits don't get a look in - even if they are performed by Cornish brass bands and choirs. On the other hand, rock, folk, classical, choral and brass are all welcome where the material reflects our Cornish tradition and way of life.
