I am here for Networking

About Me

The mission of the The Playwrights' Center of San Francisco is to encourage and develop local playwrights and promote script writing, audience development, and related arts.
Now, more than ever, we're living up to it! The Playwrights' Center is currently in a time of great growth, and we encourage all interested folks to come by and check us out.
With twenty eight years of service to the Bay Area and weekly events —not to mention a membership that attracts directors, actors and writers alike—the The Playwrights' Center of San Francisco offers countless opportunities for the development of your play!
Our staged reading series, Scene Nights, and programs offer many opportunities for Bay Area playwrights. Directors have an opportunity to be involved in nurturing new work and get experience they can put on their resumes. Our Actors get to flex their cold reading skills, make contacts with area playwrights and up and coming directors. There's something for everyone! Become a member at www.playwrightscentersf.org sliding scale $40-60 per year.

My Interests

Theatre, playwrighting, acting, directing, stage management, local arts

I'd like to meet:

San Francisco Bay Area playwrights, actors, directors, donors, theatre professionals, and theatre lovers! We are always looking for a diverse membership to help playwrights develop quality local work. We are also very interested in building a network with theatres around the country and the world who might be interested in work our playwrights develop.

Our Programs include:

Scene Nights - Playwrights bring in 10 pages of a work in progress. Actors read the work followed by a facilitated feedback. Each playwright receives a total of approx 20 minutes to have their scene read and discussed. Scene Nights also provide an excellent opportunity for actors to practice cold reading skills and get to stretch their range, because they will be given up to six different parts read, many of which they wouldn't normally be cast to read.

Developmental Readings - Part of our twice a year Reading Series, Developmental Readings are an unrehearsed table reading of an entire play (work-in-progress) in front of an audience with a facilitated feedback session. The Developmental Reading is meant to provide the playwright with valuable feedback and the opportunity to hear the work read from beginning to end. Developmental readings also provide actors with reading experience, get an opportunity to provide feedback to works in progress and help the playwright understand how an actor will interpret their work.

Staged Readings - Part of our twice a year Reading Series, Staged Readings are rehearsed and directed book-in-hand staged performances of the play that is nearly production ready. The Staged Readings are meant to provide the playwright with an opportunity to get a taste of the production process, receive feedback from a director and actors during the rehearsal process, and see the work on it's feet. The Staged Readings are staged in front of an audience with facilitated feedback to follow. Staged Readings provide an opportunity for actors and directors to build on their resume, practice their craft, and participate in the development process. Theatre professionals and theatre lovers have an opportunity to see completely new, local works and have a hand in helping the playwright finish the work.

Educational Discounts - The San Francisco Bay Area is rich with educational opportunities for the playwright. The Playwrights' Center of San Francisco works with local organizations to provide discounts to our members.

Theatre Nights - The Playwrights' Center of San Francisco purchases discount group tickets to local theatre productions and offers them to our members. We firmly believe that developing one's skills is firmly rooted in exposure to a broad range of theatre. Attendees are always invited to gather for a discussion afterward.

Forums and Panels - PCSF offers special speaker's panels and forums centered around topics of interest to playwrights and theatre professionals.

Sheherazade - Sheherazade is our annual fundraiser production to showcase our playwrights, actors, and directors. The production is usually comprised of several short plays written by our members. This year's production will be a 2007 in Review comprised of 8 short plays. We've sold out two years running and expect bigger and better this year!

Networking Events - Up to four networking events each year. The formats and locations vary from swanky celebrations to how-to and just-do-it pot luck get-togethers.For more information about how to join, how to participate, or to contact us, please see our website at:
