Umm...ABOUT ME
I dig satire and making fun of anything Americana.
I eschew the mainstream and their values. I am an
outlier, staying far afield of those who snuggle up and
make their homes in the middle of the bell-curve.
I loathe mediocrity, those who do not think for
themselves, people who are self-involved,
those who are too fear-driven to get connected,
people who do not read, and Takers.
I am an existentialist.
I am amused by the mainstream's goofy choices,
pop culture, and people with no impulse control.
I am all about Coke in those tiny glass bottles,
the smell of Vick's VapoRub, and those paperclips
with the colored, plastic-coating on top.
In the spirit of *You have to get in, to get out*, I
have a closet full of awards and recognitions, have
been trained at the world's finest universities, and
have an alphabet soup after my *real* name.
The accomplishment I am most proud of is realizing
that all of it is meaningless.
In another life I have been homeless, a hippy, and a
hustler.
I have tried almost everything risky at least once.
I was a throw-away kid who lived on the streets and at
age 15 sold drugs for money to eat. At one time or
another I have shared my life with heroin addicts,
alcoholics, people who carried guns in their pants
to stay alive, and many others who were actually aware
they were mentally-ill. I have lived underground,
above-ground, on the edge, and in the middle. I know
how to play the Game, and more importantly, that we,
ourselves, are the authors of our own reality.
I write both fiction (stage plays, short stories,
novels) as well as a variety of nonfiction books and
articles. Since many people find such things important
to know, my work has appeared in books, newspapers,
professional journals, literary magazines, e-zines,
scientific journals, magazines, columns, and the like.
Works in progress and future projects include books,
stage plays, and a collaborative effort on a satirical
documentary about the evil side of Corporate America.
Much of my work is outspoken, edgy and
controversial. In order to say what I mean I have been
using pseudonyms for nearly two decades now. I have
good reason for not having my worlds collide
(yes, I do have a life outside of writing) and for
keeping my personal life private. So please do not
email me playing little reindeer games and trying to
figure out my identity,
or you may end up being the subject of my next work.

My latest book is a novel called:
NOT FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION.
Here's the publisher's description:
Not For Public Consumption: STRANGE, INTELLIGENT, AND
WICKEDLY FUNNY, THIS BOOK HAS ALL THE MAKINGS OF
THE NEXT CULT CLASSIC.
Come and see the world through the eyes of those who have opted-out.
Embedded within the Bizarro World of San Francisco's Underground, the book follows the life of Murray Y. Bardos, a man who has a lot of secrets, including his penchant for incessant toilet plunging in the middle of the night. Does he have something to hide, or is he truly crazy? And, if he is crazy, was it by choice?
Not For Public Consumption tells the story about life
on the edge. Satirical, twisted, and filled with
psychological intrigue, it seeks to unravel the
mystery of just where it is that normalcy ends
and madness begins.

NOT FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION, a novel by p.l. frank
ABOUT THIS BOOK
Murray is an enigma. And a walking, talking example of everyone’s worst fear: to be exposed for the impostors they are.
As he negotiates the strange and twisted world of San Francisco’s Underground, Murray’s work at the pirated radio station is punctuated with unexplained visits to a psychiatric outpatient program and dodging mysterious telephone calls and people who are following him. With a long string of compulsions and bizarre behaviors he appears from most accounts, to be crazy. But is that too just an illusion?
At the very heart of it all, Murray is on a quest for something important…the real mystery is just what is it? His journey is one of psychological intrigue, in which the story-within-a-story, and even the names of his fellow travelers provide clues to unravel the mystery. From his friend Molly who is ‘held together with paperclips and rubber-bands’, to his cat he believes talks to him, to his mother who constantly reminds him he is a loser, to his unlikely friendship with Juno, a Tarot card reading jewel thief, Murray winds his way through a cast of underground characters to come out exactly where we all strive to be: with the wisdom and luck to hide in broad daylight and never be exposed.

Hilarious. Definitely do not read this book in public.

REVIEW: Green Turtle Cay, April 17, 2007
With deceptively simple prose and a subtle touch,
Frank has written a fresh, distinct novel. Without
resorting to trite violence, ubiquitous drugs or the
other techniques that are so common in modern fiction,
Frank envelops the reader in a world that is dark and
edgey. The plot has a an unusual rhythm to it, with
stories told within stories. One particularly
brilliant achievement is the creation of a play
within a novel. The play stands alone as a complete
work that is a hilarious achievement in absurdist
humor, yet at the same time, the play acts as vital
exposition for the larger plot of the novel.

REVIEW: Not for Barbara Cartland fans, May 9, 2007
This brilliantly constructed novel explores
the concept of sanity/insanity through the
often hilarious experiences of a group of people
who have dropped out of society. The plot twists
and turns in the manner of a first-rate psychological thriller. The thrill here includes discovering
the truth about the protagonist, Murray.
Is he merely secretive and possibly involved
in some sort of underground movement? Is he insane?
Has he been driven to insanity or is the appearance
of insanity a concious choice on his part?
The novel takes a fresh look at the age-old question:
what is normal? An entertaining, compelling
read-at-a-single-sitting book.
